One thing I am still questioning with this build, I like manual transmissions, and back in 2009 I built this 6 speed to go into a Gen 2 which I have yet to install it. These shots were when it was in process, it is currently bolted up to a twin turbo engine.

It might need to wait for me to get back to my full independent suspension gen 2 build.

As I am working at closing some details on the engine before it goes in the chassis, hopefully to stay there. Task late today was for fresh seals and replace the injector filter baskets. I have always been able to run a screw or a tap into the filter and just pull them out. But the one I have started with is fighting me pretty good. These are a new style Nikki with 12 nozzles.
So I have ordered a screen puller and hope it works not to mention hope the Denso screens fit properly. The outer seals look right.

Oh fun, it is time to install the winch since I will use it to move this uphill as I set the engine/trans in with the bucket of my tractor.
All was going well till I find heavy contact of the new series wind motor to the radiator crossmember. I am pretty sure I had this new motor in my '95SR after the perm magnet winch motor let it's smoke out. This motor is larger in diameter than the original. I need to check if the body is sitting further forward on the frame than normal.
Just was looking at that, the few body bolts that are dropped in place spin free. This is interesting with quite a few options.

Gotta have a winch. It totally transforms vehicle capability. I’ve never used my winch to un-stuck myself but I have used it to pull leaner trees down safely.

Yes the winch is a truly multi use tool. Mine has done allot of recovery work early in it's life on my Gen1. That wonderful rig found itself in some serious muck, not to mention up on a table rock in the middle of a stream. That was interesting that once I got the rig hung up with all four wheels dangling, the rig was still bumper deep in water. My friends little bronco could not pull me back.
Another nasty, side trail off the pipeline, down a steep to a foot bridge, there was a path to drive around the bridge. We walked the flat heavily wooded are for some distance and decided to go for it. Had we walked a bit further we might have discovered we really did not want to be there. Next thing we found I was rolled driver side deep to the windows, and Gary had come in far enough to get stuck as well. That ended up with my 30' strap between the rigs and running the cable out, at times with my 20' strap to reach trees. Over three hours till we got to an upslope and the trees had enough space between them to get through. That was a long day, I was bingo fuel by the time we figure out where in hill we were since this was long before GPS. I had Loran, but that was nuts to figure out and useless if you were not carrying the charts.

Can you just imagine these 32YO winch relays no longer want to go click-click. Guess I will stow the new rope and reel it in when relays arrive.

This one is a front Torsen style, made in Russia. Helical diff as they call it.
I studied both Russian and German way back in 2nd & 3rd grade. I retain no Russian but having worked on Porshe and BMW cars way back before service documents were available in English it made life easier, not that I learned a lick of tech terms back in the early 60s.

The Torsen Diff, потрясный! What a great piece of engineering. I never studied german but am an organic chemist so I have a functional reading level, not going to even try and speak it. Great project btw, very inspiring stuff. Can't wait to see it on the road.

As the engine & trans is getting close to being ready to go in, I finally made a decision. being I own some rather old Mitsubishi's, at least as far back as commonly found in country. One thing I really liked about the 1st Gen Galant is the radiator header is easily removed allowing the driveline to come out and install with little fuss.
Well, after my first install of the V6 some time back that was a total PIA, and that was with a 2" body lift which is no longer part of this package. Decision was made to make the front header removable, as such.

One thing that has been bugging me for a week is this new winch relay, I have not been able to make the series would motor on my winch run. Not one wire hookup online and no schematic to be found. Then finding the small print that this is only a 75A load capable, out it goes. No desire to have the winch cut off if I am crazy enough to hang my rig from a tree, again.

I have a 500A relay arriving in a few days.

If the engine comes out alone it is not real necessary but when the transmission and T case is coming out too, that is where it sines. Keep in mind the AC core needs to be pulled to have value in this.
