And if a steel rack breaks finding someone to weld it in a place like the Andes of Ecuador is going to be easier than finding someone who can weld an aluminum rack.

We used two Jandd Expedition racks and had no problems with them. The braze-on where they mounted to the bike did break once in Laos and we had it welded.

That said, if money were no object I would certainly go with the stainless racks.

Ortleibs are popular for good reason. They stay on the rack, they are easy to mount, they are waterproof and they last a long time. We used ours for a year in Southeast Asia and wife's still look new.
