Partsflyin's Mild 03 Frontier Build

I will do that for sure. About three years ago family and i flew out o Bozeman and drove up to a small town about 45 minutes outside of Gardiner. Spent a week in the area, I cannot put to words how much I enjoyed the visit. Spent a few days in Yellowstone, spent a day floating the Yellowstone river, saw a rodeo in Livingston.

Without questions some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen. I cannot wait to get back to the area for some more exploring. It would be great to have a local guide !!

Like I said, I'll be up for it! Those are beautiful areas, for sure. Glacier blows the views in Yellowstone right out of the water. Talk about big sky country.

So I had a little time yesterday and a little time today to start on the compressor install. I had spent alot of time trying to figure out how and where I wanted to mount the compressor. I finally decided to put it behind the back seat. There is just enough room on the floor to mount it between the back seat and the back of the cab. This will definately keep it away from the elements and heat. (my first concern). The next thing I was worried about was vibration/noise. This lead me to try the following approach.
I picked up some "well nuts" from Lowes.

I figured four will be plenty solid to hold the compressor steady, and the rubber housing should help isolate things.

Bolted down the compressor bracket.

Finally bolted down the compressor.

I at this time decided it would probably be a good idea to trim the carpet behind the compressor in case things get a little warm.

Finally found a a used Volant cold air intake in my price range, so i snatched it up and got it installed yesterday. Very easy install .

Next up will be exhaust, pipes are not in terrible shape but the muffler is getting pretty rough.Probably will replace everything from the cats back.

I went ahead and got some custom exhaust installed on the truck. I went with 2-1/4" pipe from where the two pipes come together just behind the cat's.
Chose a Flowmaster 40 series muffler and tucked the exit up high and tight near the bumper.

Looking good! I'd be interested to hear if you noticed any power/mileage gains with this new setup. I'm also considering the exhaust. I've all but ruled out the Volant. Wouldn't mate to my snorkel.

I plan to check for mileage improvements when I get past the smileage. I have trouble keeping my foot out of it so far, just because I love the improved sound. Not too much but just enough. I feel there is a definite increase in power.

I had the Volant installed for a couple weeks before I got around to the exhaust, and one of the biggest things I have noticed is the difference in the sound of the intake. The intake is easily twice as loud since the addition of the exhaust. Clearly a large difference in the airflow.

When I can resume regular driving I will get an updated mpg check.

Finally made a little more time to work on the on board air set up. I mounted the compressor a while back but thats as far as I got. I looked around online a little this morning until I was able to find a schematic for wiring up the compressor.

After some deliberation I decided how I wanted to do things, while looking around I also decided now was the time to go ahead and pick up some goodies from Blue Sea to make for a cleaner install and also allow for future electrical add ons.

I was super stoked to find that the ARB switch fit right into one of the factory switch "blank" holes.I was dreading cutting a hole in the dash, and this eliminated the need for an extra hole.

The other "blank" right beside the compressor switch will be perfect for the rear locker switch when I get that far.

I got lucky and the switch harness was exactly the right length to reach the compressor where I had it mounted.

I went ahead and ordered a fuse panel from Blue Sea and won't be able to finish wiring until it comes in.

Got hammered with the most snow we've have in many many years yesterday and today. I am beyond pleased with the performance of the Frontier in these conditions.

Right at 20" here in the town I live in and she's still holding her own. I have never owned another vehicle with a tire this size that would perform the way the Frontier has done for me the last couple days.

Yes, i know this amount of snow is nothing for many of you all but for middle Mid-West VA its pretty awesome !
