Pause overland trailer

The reality is all of the high end offroad trailers are 145k plus. A really nice Sprinter is well over 200k.

You mean a really nice Ford Transit... ?
Bit of a false comparison though with engine and transmission. Just saying. The Pause went up 11k for oem prices on victron and battle born over what they replaced...emm

Last time I looked 3k Victron was $700 (retail!!) more than Renology and now that Battle Born is Dragonfly Corp. it's no differnt than Go Power.

If anything I like seeing the effort in Indiana to start focusing on modern materials like duel pane windows and non wood materials. The big struggle is the labor force and “this is how we have done it for x yrs” vs ok we need to clean up our sloppy work, have electricians actually on staff to do proper layouts etc

Good one! You will see the new Transit Trail outfiited for over $220k. I guess my point is, you can spend 220k on a van, or 220k on a trailer and new truck.
220k is a big portion of a asset that grows in value ie land purchase, cabin etc

200k on a depreciating asset with Luxury tax is insane unless your paying cash and have all your other life aspects fully funded. Which case only about 1% of the population is in that situation

Latest price increase was because they went from renogy batteries and inverter over to 1000ah of battleborn batteries and 3000 watt victron inverter. The price increase with this change was inevitable.
Since they are basically the same price now, what's a better relative "value" at this point, the Roamer1 or the Pause (IYHO)?

You also cant put a value on enjoying life. I could spend 40k a year traveling around staying in hotels, or spend 140k on a trailer and travel enjoying our awesome country the way I want.

Are you financing your 40k a yr travel on credit cards? If you are your in the same spot as the 15yr RV loan person. Which case economics catches up with you eventually. Then we move you to the homeless problems thread and we discuss all the various impacts being seen and experienced by those of us watching our federal lands getting closed off?.

Lucky, only cash, but I would finance a trailer if need be. . At 59 years old, I am going to enjoy my life. I would camp in a tent (We Do) to be outdoors, that is what makes me happy. If someone can afford the payment, what is the difference? I financed my first motor-home at 21, paid it off, it was awesome. Think about how hard all of us work during the most capable times of our life, wait to retire, have money, and bam, you die. I am not advocating financial irresponsibility, but enjoy life!

100% spot on. Nobody is advocating irresponsible spending that puts the basic requirements of a healthy life for you and your family at risk but enjoying life while you can and when you can is important. If I have set myself up financially to responsibly afford a trailer payment now then why not? Yes, I could start stashing that money away to save up but it might take me many years to save enough cash to pay cash for my trailer. In the meantime I am missing out on using and enjoying that trailer. I would say that it is probably a good idea to come in with enough cash down to try and stay ahead or even with the depreciation just in case life happens and you need to sell and get out of the loan.

You can camp with a $100 tent and not delay enjoying life. My comment was regarding the discussion of $200,000 RVs.

Even those of us with 200k cash very few of us ever spend it on a depreciating asset. That is actually probably a very important distinction between people who can afford such silliness and those who probably shouldn’t assume that debt on a depreciating asset.

I race sailboats and could go out today and order a new $500,000 Pogo. In 5 yrs that same boat will be $250,000-$300k if I need to sell it. Not buying the Pogo doesn’t prevent me from racing and enjoying the sport. My big boat was $25k in 2006. Today if I wanted I could sell it for $25k.

My kids race $400 boats built in 1971. Those boats have been worth $400-$800 for the past 30 yrs. When were done we’ll sell them for $400 to the next kid.

I don’t buy into the one must live life at the expense of financial security. Your 59 and have cash for a depreciating asset you are in the very very small % of the population that is in that group.

Don’t confuse “the 1%er bs” with the other 1% of non wealthy people who save and scrape to buy expensive things. Two different things.

There are way way more 100+k toys out there on dealer lots than savers who socked $ away to eventually have said toy?

As we all know, there are always tradeoffs. The advantage to the truck trailer combo when it's time to move on is one can sell them separately, meaning a broader pool of potential buyers vs a van conversion. With the latter, you need a buyer who wants that specific van/conversion combination. As for spending $220k on either option, I'll pass. Reminds me of how times change. I nostalgically recall how the brand new '99 F250 V8 4x4 with camper package and a FWC Grandby set me back $35k combined back in May 1998. Granted the FWC was spartan by today's standards, as was the truck for that matter. Unfortunately, I sold the combo in 2019 close to a year prior to Covid. Could have easily doubled my money had I waited a year or so.
