How do you keep the battery charged?

I have a AC charger that stays in the case, it plugs into that circular DC jack that is left of the outlets. I've thought about keeping it plugged in inside the truck the whole time, but I'm not sure how that will affect the battery. It keeps the charge relatively well so as long as I charge it every few weeks to top it off, it should be good.
