Pelican verses Zarges

Hey SWITAWI, I will let you know how it fits next week sometime.
The new footlocker shipped yesterday, and will be here Tuesday.

I still have the bigger one in the rig to take out.

As you know, I am becoming a fan of lighter weight. How much does the new case weigh and can you handle it by yourself? I find my 6 rifle safari case and foot locker to be completely unmanageable when loaded. Even my laptop case weighs a ton when loaded.:coffee:

I can carry the larger footlocker fully loaded just fine out to my rig, I only have about 30' to carry it or less.

The newer case will be a little lighter, so no problem with it either.

Most of the time the footlocker will stay in the rig when camped, and I will only pull out of it what I need.

The solar equipment case however will be outside all the time when camp is setup.

The larger footlockers I will not be using for next year weigh in at 36.6 lb empty for the 12" high one.

The new smaller one weighs in at 27 lb empty for the 16" high one.

The new smaller footlocker arrived at my home on Monday.
Put it out in the rig for a quick pic on top of the last years bigger footlockers that I used.
You can see it has a smaller footprint, but it is 4" taller than the bigger case on the bottom.

Sunday I will pull out both cases and hopefully stuff most (cutting back some from what is in the bigger case) of the bigger case contents into the new smaller footlocker.
Then if that works out, the case I bought a month or so back for the solar gear will go on top of the new footlocker.

PS, shameless plug for our hoodie :D

I am very happy with the new smaller footlocker.
I just got done transferring the stuff from the older bigger footlocker over to the newer smaller one.
It all fits!

I did leave out a few items though that I feel that I do not need to take.
I am always looking for ways to pack less, and taking stuff I do not think I will use makes the cases a tad lighter to carry out to the rig, and better organized.

First picture shows the upper removable trays with about everything from the bigger trays from the older footlocker.
Some items I had room to put in the lower portion since the new footlocker is 16" high verses only 12" high for the older one.

I think I can actually fit more in the lower portion of the new footlocker than the old one since it is deeper.
The propane canisters are no longer laid down, but now they can stand up.
I can also fit more towels in than before too.

Lower area has the propane lantern, fuel for it and the Zodi Hotman Extreme shower, the dishwashing/drying rack, and old REI watersack I bought back in the 80s for backpacking, clothesline and clothespins, and other stuff.

New footlocker in place.
The D rings underneath the blanket do not exactly match up as good with the narrower footlocker, but it will holds it very tight in place.

It may match better if I position the footlocker over to the passenger side a tad.
That will also open up a slot to store my Cabelas zero gravity lounger chair next to the folding picnic table which is next to the ARB fridge.
Never leave for a camping trip without that lounger :D

The solar equipment case that has the Goal Zero 350 battery/inverter, Goal Zero LED lanterns, and the Powerfilm solar panel fits nicely on top of the new footlocker.

I will replace that bungee cord that holds the table tightly against the fridge later on with one of my black ratcheting straps.
Then again maybe not, it is held in pretty tight.

Overall I am happy with the new smaller footprint footlocker.
I may have even been able to go with the 20" high one as it would clear the ceiling, but as long as I was able to transfer over the contents of the old one, I am pretty happy with the new footlocker.

In the very back of the rig will go the chuckbox, Zodi shower, and other bulky times stuffed along the sides.

I have the info in post # 88.
Thanks. I missed that whole page completely some how or at least that one post. That is the 25x17x16. That is the one I have been eyeing for a few weeks. The only thing holding me back is the color. I just can't decide between the tan, green, grey, black and OD.

I decided to go all black with my cases, makes it more stealth when they are in the rig.

You are welcome.

This is the only picture I have of the square case I picked up for the solar gear.
You can see it houses the Goal Zero Extreme 350 battery/inverter, the Powerfilm 60 watt folding solar panel, five of the Goal Zero LED lanterns, and all the cables needed to hook the Goal Zero to the solar panel to recharge it, and also the cables to hook the solar panel to the front of the FJ where the port is to go to the charge controller for the rigs stock battery.

I know the ECS cases are a little spendy, but these are mil spec cases, and they will take a beating and never wear out.
Totally waterproof and dustproof.
