Pelican verses Zarges

No, the bottoms look identical to the top lid.
But your idea sounds interesting.

I would call them up and ask for Jason in sales.
Might be they could do one for you when they have a production run.

Got the cases loaded up yesterday with the gear, and I put them in the rig this morning.
Very nice fit in there, and sandwiched in between the two cases and the ARB fridge is the Cabelas picnic table.

Still a lot more gear has to go into the rig such as the Cabelas kitchen, the two cases that go into the kitchen that holds the pots, utensils, ect, 5 gallon water bottle, duffel bag, dry food box, and more odds and ends.
Takes a big shoehorn to cram it all in there.

Pictures one and two

Case that goes on the bottom with the tray out showing the gear.
This one holds the propane, propane lantern, LED lantern, a new sink/drying rack combo (review coming in my review thread later) water bottle pump.
In the one tray stake hammer, clothesline, garbage bags, and miscellaneous stuff.

This case holds (not seen, all underneath the top two trays) bath towels, kitchen towels, floormat for the crapper tent, the PETT toilet/Wag bags.
Two top trays hold bug repellent, sunscreen, Engel fridge temp gizmo, snakebite kit, LED headlamp, Surefire LED flashlight, knives, GoPro HD camera (to record mainly mountain bike runs), batteries, two way radios.

Pictures four and five

Bottom case in, lid clears the roof, second case you can lift the lid up to get to stuff and pull the trays out to add more, but lid will not stay up on its own.

The two cases will be coming out though and staying out when setting up camp.
Misting outside when I shot the picture below, looks like some on the lens.

Will get more pictures of the cases in camp when I go, and have a full review on them.
So far I really like these, great way to organize the gear.
Having the top trays really helps.

Corey,
Can you take a couple of pix that give better proportion (size) from the rear of the FJC. Seems like they are fairly long (from tailgate to the rear of the front seat). Double decker potentially, but does not appear to fit: side by side or parallel - length wise across the width of the rear compartment.
Thx

Sure, working on the rig today on the shelf project for the tent.
It looks like in the above pics they go all the way to the rear door, but they do not.
I will get some other pics.

If the fridge was not in there, they would fit side by side where they are now.
And no room in the back to put one sideways, as I have the Powertank and fire bottle back there.

Pics will be up this afternoon sometime.

I use Pelicans which I buy used on either ebay or off craigslist.
I have
3x 1660s
7x 1550s
1x 1450
3x 1400
3x 1200
2x 1120s
The pricing is great if you can afford to wait for the size you want to pop up on the local radar or bid on the size you want.
Here are the 1660s and 1550s on the GOBI

Looks nice Chris, neatly organized.

Snapped a few pics from the rear showing the cases stacked, and how room is left in the rear.
The rear will occupy the cases that go into the Cabelas kitchen, and other stuff will go back there too.
If my chuckbox is built on time for my vacation, it will occupy the space back there, and I will not have to tote along the Cabelas kitchen.
The chuckbox will go on top of a Cabelas roll top table that takes up way less room than the kitchen setup.

I just used my ECS transit cases on a trip last weekend--I love them! The only thing I would change is to move the vent to the center to accomodate front and rear handles. I can't be too choosy though, since I only paid $50 each for mine.

Corey, were you able to specify options/configuration when you ordered your case, or are your cases standardized stock items?

Great to read they worked out for you.
That is a steal you got those for.

No options on the foot lockers except for either 12" or 16" high.
I could have gone with a case similar in size, but I like the two removable trays that come with the cases.

Very interesting thread and nice write up Cory.

Partner Steel also do Aluminium 'Dry Boxes' - the best part being they will make any size you want.

As an example:
36 x 15 x 15
~45lbs
$360

Will look like this (obviously this one isnt 36 x 15 x 15)

I think for now I will scavanged around Army Surplus stores for Mortar cases until I figure out exactly what I need.

Be patient and you can find Pelican cases for a decent prices. I am picking up three pelican cases for $145 in the 1610, 1500, and 1450 size.

ECS Case can make a patterned base plate to stack cases, but it is not a standard order item. A faster solution I am thinking about is bolting 4 small squares on the floor where I want to stack my cases. A friend did this on his trailer and he holds his load steady with one strap. (Maybe two would be better for roads I like to take!)

Currently I am using the Action Packer cases that I bought two years ago to replace some very outdated and flimsy Rubbermaid cases.

The Action Packers are OK, but they have two disadvantages.
1. Narrow at the bottom, more room at top.
It would be nicer if the interior volume was consistent all the way through.
2. They do not stack very well, and the top of the lids are slippery.

I am looking at reorganizing my gear to fit better into my rig, and to take less as in items that hardly/rarely get used.

I am familiar with Pelican and I have a nice laptop case that I am keeping my foldable solar panel in.

I first saw Zarges cases in an advertisement in Overland Journal.
I contacted them last year and a rep from my state called me and said he would send me info on the cases to my home address, and he never did.

Both cases look like they will stack well and can be strapped down as seen in many a thread here.

Looking at getting three of the Pelican 1550s without foam.
Pelican 1550 ® case model
APP-1550E Price $113.38

They have others the same size with wheels and a pull out handle, but I have no need for either of those additions.

The equivalent in a Zarges case I think is the K 475 Case line, and model 45137, third case down from the top.

The Zarges case is considerable more money than the Pelican, the Zarges is going for $242, about double the Pelican.

Anyone have experience with the Zarges?
I am not sure if they are worth double the money over the Pelicans.

I am so sorry you didn't receive information back from Zarges. We have a great new website with a casefinder feature that might help. zargescases.com. Please let me know if I you would like our catalog and or more information about why Zarges cases are worth the investment.

Corey,
those giant cases look like they waste a lot of space. Good for military protection but not for camping.

I have the same negative feelings about the Action Packers. I was at Lowes the other day and next to the AP's, they had some new ones that were square, space saving and stackable- looks like addressing all the negatives of the AP's.
They would be perfect for camping storage.

I use Stormcases and they work out great. The new style AP's would be a great addition- I may pick some up but already hav those darn AP's
