I've yet to actually use it for its intended purpose. But that looks like it will change in a bout a week. :wings:

i am wondering how you came to that decision? i owned an 03 640 and it was the same as all the other big thumpers in that regard. i rode with my wife on the back of my old KLR and the 640 and the cagiva elefant, all the same to me. she doesnt ride on the ATK as its just not set-up for a passenger.

I had her ride on the 640 with me..... DUH!

Well, besides that, here are the two main details that made a difference to me. The seat is more level than the XRL- which dips towards the gas tank. On the XRL, I am forced into the gas tank.... which isnt good for my manly bits. The passenger foot pegs are a couple of inches lower and slightly farther back than the XRL. My wife's feet, especially with riding boots on, were digging into the back of my leg. OK, she has big fit!

My new to me 04 1150 GSA. Absolutely LOVE this bike. So much more than the 09 1200 GSA I had, way more fun to ride and I really like the way the 1150's look.....FREKIN UGLY...:sombrero:

Going on the first camping trip with it this weekend. I'll need to post up pics all loaded up.

Can you give details as to the difference between the '04 and the '09, other than looks, that makes you like the '04 better?

Overall is does weigh more but the 1150 seems to be better balanced. The 1200 always felt...not sure how to put it but awkward I guess. The 1200 does have more power but not enough to make up for the lack of....FUN. The 1150 is just plain funner (haha I know not proper English)!!!! It has this weired feeling of being more planted, I know that's probably gravity, but just has a better feel. Also LOVE the fact that there is no CANBUS system. Adding electrical farkels to the 1200 is a pain unless you add a fuse box.

The only real thing I could think of that if it were possible is to take the non-servo brake system from the 09 and replace it with the servo assisted on the 04. Although I could honestly say I have never read or seen the servo system break, that mechanical whine make me feel as though I could break it, say sitting at a stop light and holding the brake for a long time.

I really think it comes down to personal preference. Kinda like running shoes, everyone swears the ones they own are the best, but probably not the best for me.

Oh and the 1150 is mine...not BMW Financial's. Sold my KTM 640 and my Burgman 650 to get it. Down to one bike that does it all.....and couldn't be happier.

Did I confuse you more.:ylsmoke:
