Old thread, but just giving an update. I ended up getting some WTB LaserDisc wheels and setting it up ghetto tubeless via Gorilla Tape. I had zero flats the rest of the season, whereas I'd have about one flat every other ride. I'm a tubeless believer now.

I just ordered ENVE rims for my new bike for the year. On that order...tubes. :) I just love my tubes. Call me kooky. I will say, in 1992 I was also the type of guy buying up thumb shifters and still racing crits with downtube shifters.

I am still tubeless. I don't like flats. I was riding a couple weeks ago in a snow storm and had a goat head come out. It was single digits and my Stans had frozen. It was flat by the time I got home but it aired up fine the next morning and has been good for a couple of weeks. I have had that tire on for a few months so it my need more sealant. Besides that I have had no issues.

Tubeless is the way to go, road, mtb and most of all racing cross. 90 psi on the road is a dream. Takes the edge off and rolls fast. The lack of flats is great but the the real advantage is running lower psi, it is smother and just plain faster when you get off the road. Just put fresh sealant in every 3 or so months that way you don't get caught with a puncture and dried up sealant. I do carry a Problem Solvers plug kit and a tube just in case.

Tubeless all the way. The wife and I have been running Stan's with regular tires for over 6 years now without issue. A bit of a pain in the... to set up but well worth it.

With the 29er I carry a spare lightweight 26" tube just in case...it is probably dry rotted from never having to use it :)
