The OVLR Bday is more of a family kind of event. I had trouble gathering people to even go on a medium trail. Only 4 of us actually ran the trail. When we got to the end with the big mud hole, a whole bunch of people showed up to watch us, but didn't attempt it themselves. On the upside, my wife and kid had a lot of fun.

Being an American living in Europe for over 16 years in total now, 3 in Germany, 13 in Switzerland.. and married to a German, I would have to agree that unless you travel north, or to Spain you really can't get that true off road experince over here. On the other hand travelling East, you can get that experince, but also risk having aour ride and your kit stolen. Just had a client who had his LR, that was fully kitted out stolen while hunting in Poland last Summer. I have friends who travel to Africa often to get that off road vacation, and it's easy to do. I wish I was back int eh States sometimes just so I could drive out on our 400 acres and injoy for 4x4ing..

Thanks Chucaro...i got it for a bargain brand new and its served me well since December 2001 with nearly 150,000 km covered so far, with it's biggest trip being a five week stint in northern Australia.

The only thing i regret is that when i moved from the state of New South Wales back to Victoria i had to hand in my DSCVRY numberplates and the Victorian plates were already taken

1992 Disco: Not really an expedition Landie, but it serves as H-C rig, camping truck, and everything needed ON/OFF road in the tiny country of Lebanon and neighbouring countries...

Before I choped it we did have fun too:

2004 D90 TD5: did 4 days in the "empty quarters"...that's the most of "expedition" this has done...
