Does anyone see a problem with building a bed drawer system out of King Starboard?

Nope, weight would be the only concern. Its a great material and I use it for a lot of things. Fastening it is the only tricky part verses wood where you can glue and screw... the Starboard is just a little more involved but not impossible.

If you find a distributor in your area, this stuff comes in an amazing amount of width's, thicknesses and various hardness's. Me and a friend were thinking about building a homebuilt boat and we asked a local boat builder about his Starboard Rep. The guy came out and brought us dozens of samples. I never knew the stuff was so versatile. Some of it is very bendable and other pieces were crazy strong. We also learned that it doesnt even have to be screwed together. You can use the same stuff you put together SCH40 PVC Pipe with some of it, others types can be glued with a caulk type gun or a plastic welder if you want to get really crazy

And the new thing is crazy colors almost like custom countertops. Pretty impressive stuff really

Yeah, but I do not think you would need to use 3/4 to build drawers out of? Maybe on the sides for support, but that's it.

Then most guys/girls are covering their builds with carpet to hide the raw wood and some are painting them. If you figure in the weight of the carpet, the paint and the glue used to put the carpet down, it all adds up. If you got black starboard, you'd be able to leave it just like that and be fine.

For a set of drawers, I'd not worry about it much unless you're building them for a Prius :) Since most of us are loading our trucks out with camping gear, tools, coolers filled with beers, what's a few more pounds

slow but steady...

Been making some slow but actual progress on my drawers for the XJ. Lots (and LOTS!) of head scratching and simply staring at the thing in an effort to think through stuff but its finally working out. This week will be devising a functional locking method for the drawers and finishing up the sub assembly. May also get to some of the final "trim" work so it ties in a bit more.
One cool thought I had while test fitting this stuff in was it being modular. Since I will likely still find myself in need of hauling larger stuff occasionally I had the epiphany that I can make it work. Leave the sub structure bolted in to the floor but build a fake "floor" that mounts to it. That way when I need to haul stuff I can pull the drawers and put them in the garage. Drop the fake floor in and blamO... instant return of the cargo area. :)

Those are Vector T-handle latches. Available at Allegis Corp. Contact your local salesman / area rep to buy them directly.

If you are using a high quality locking drawer slide like the Accurides, then the Vector T-handles are unnecessary in my opinion. They are complicated to install and the mechanism takes up valuable space inside the drawer.

Diy handles...

Spent some time this weekend working on the latches for my drawers. So far I'm liking the design.
Note* have to wait to get to work to add pics. :(
