While I was still looking for a Tahoe, I found this site by searching for cargo box ideas. Its been quite an inspiration so I thought I'd share my build.
Built of 3/4" plywood (forgot which type but it was decently expensive)
Used 100 pound slides (couldve gone bigger but was trying to keep the build on the cheap side)
Overall dimensions were about 42" x 40" x 10"
The weight added up quickly so I cut out a few areas to save a few pounds but not take away from the rigidity.
I added a coating of bedliner to keep any moisture from ruining it...and because I had it sitting around.
Top cut and drawers in. I wanted to be able to access it from the top if I was unable to open the rear doors.
Working great
The two drawers are about 28" deep and there is a full width section at the front of the box.
The box is held down by four turnbuckles rated at 250 pounds each to the stock tie down and seat rails. Pretty impressed that it is nice and quiet with all the stuff in there. I would guess that it weighs 120-150 pounds, its beefy.
And here is the final product! Pretty happy how it turned out, the side panels make ALL the difference.
