ZJ Drawer

There aren't a lot of ZJ pics posted in here...

I wanted something cheap and effective (just like me:xxrotflma) and easily removable. All in I think I have less than $10 into the build. I used materials I had lying around and even painted them with leftover interior house paint. I took pics during the build but don't have any with me. I have turnbuckles for mounting them, but I'm not finding any good anchors without drilling into the floor. Right now they are wedged with the hatch is closed due to the angle of the backseat. I want to use some heavy webbing instead, but it's too cold outside for me to care very much.

Because of the latch system on the tailgate of the zj, I had to raise the platform off of the floor so that the drawer could clear the molding. I can add more pics later if requested, but I simply built a box frame with one middle brace. I didn't like losing the space, but at least I can pull the drawer out and hide items under the drawer if I needed, as long as they are about 1" tall.

The drawer does not have any slides because they take up so much room. However, they do slide out 97% of the way and will not fall out due to the way I constructed them. A little candle wax on the moving wood is really all that is needed. My 5 year old won't be getting it open, but my wife and I have no issues.

Not sure what to do with my compressor and jumppack in this configuration. Just not much room for them.

On top I added some slides that were given to me for a slide that I use to mount my full size food cooler, 7 gallon water jug, and small drink cooler. I mount the food cooler on the back of the slide and it can slide all the way out and open the lid without hitting the hatch. Right now I am using some thick rope to secure them to the eyebolts for quick release and $aving$. I use a small hitch pin to keep it closed.

I utilize the space under the slide by storing a homemade table that has 4 screw in legs seen here:

The open cavity on the pass side houses 3 of our 4 kelty cubes that we use for luggage on trips; right now it is stroller storage. I then strap our black supply tubs, seen in the pic above, on top and off we go.

I'll post a pic of system all packed up when I get a chance.

Looks like my son approves of the sleeping platform. I'm sure he, his sister and our bassett hound will enjoy it during our camping trips.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK Load Floor Replacement

This thread inspired and motivated me to build this for the rear of my '05 Grand Cherokee, replacing the stock load floor with 4" of storage space, maintaining a pretty much flat area with the seats folded down and some slightly beefier anchor points for securing loads.

So this is what the stock floor looks like:

And this is what I built:

IMG_0330.jpgIMG_0329.jpg

I used 3/4" plywood glued and screwed, piano hinge, indoor/outdoor carpet, aluminum C-channel, two barrel bolts (at lid corners, underneath) and a cabinet lock in the center. I used corner reinforcement brackets to bolt to the stock bolt points. This can be removed and replaced with the stock piece in about 15 minutes. Finish quality is nothing like some of the epic systems on this thread, but I wanted to share because its the only one I know of in a WK

That's a really slick setup to stash items and it looks great. Good work!

That's really clever. I like that for stuff you watn to carry all the time and not clutter the place up.

Unfotunately when you need those tow straps you'll be on a 2 week trip with the cargo area filled to the brim with crap. Ha ha. DAMHIK

Thanks! Much appreciated.

Thanks! Haha, tell me about it. Just got back from a 10 day trip and needed to get in there once with the back loaded up... not fun! ... Not sure how to avoid this with the available space though...

My brother-in-law inspired me by gifting me a $25 gift certificate to Home Depot'.. out of pocket expenses, so far are $17, and I'm very happy with the results. I do need some advise though. The cooler will fit lengthways behind the 10" wide front hatch, but it is very tight. A slider for the cooler is out, as we may sometimes remove the cooler and utilize the area as a sleeping platform for two. I'm undecided about anchor points for the cooler, I've considered nutserts to attach d-rings on the sides, but fear they may not be strong enough. At a later date I will be adding hinged flooring to the sides, supported with gussets. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated,,, Thanks
(BTW, I'm disappointed that the photos do not appear in the order that they are downloaded)
