I have certainly done the tarp and tent poles. Nothing wrong with that at all...

At the 2006 neurburgring Formula one race:

Then we graduated to an 8 foot camping labs style on my truck,

Then it moved to the Jeep,

Finally, on the trailer. its been around and well used, but it still works great!

I've been using a NRS river wing for several years and have been pretty happy with it.

I've replaced the ropes with straps and cam buckles to make it easier to set up by myself and make adjustments easier. I also have a couple MSR wings in smaller sizes that get used just as much.

The smaller wings are great to use on your tent instead of a rainfly in warm/hot weather, they allow much more air to circulate and keep the tent much cooler plus it will still protect you from unexpected showers overnight.

Where is the best place to find this style of awning?

Well I am enjoying my Hannibal awning. The pluses are fast setup and the ability to move the vehicle with the sun. I also have the side walls so I can use it to get out of the weather if need be.

No its a 1978 Boler 13' fiberglass trailer - they were built from the early 1970's to the mid-1980's and then the Scamp Trailer company bought the molds. It weighs around 900 lbs and tows like a dream. I just sold it for $3600 to help finance my Porsche 356 restoration.

Lot's of awning threads so this is a re post.

On a cold day in the San Juan Mountains, it's nice to have a wall. I also have another tarp and I can wall the whole back end off. I sleep in my truck. Works great in bad weather.

So file this under bad weather awnings. I have a smaller tarp like this for good weather/top side only.

I had to hunt to find a Hannibal awning, they hadn't been imported in a while.
I think that Hannibal is being imported again though.
It is a really nice piece of kit.

Don't have any pics of it, but for size and price I think you'd be hard pressed to beat a 12 x 24 tarp bungeed between two trucks.. May have to look at figuring out some lightwieght poles and ropes to hold it up when there's not another tall truck nearby to tie to.. We had about 12 folks hanging around under it last summer after a quick afternoon storm hit at the river.. Takes minimal space to pack it away if you're carefull about folding it back up..
