Here's one from our recent trip to Baja.

I know it's cheap but it was the smallest I could find in Alaska, has held up to everything the West coast could throw at it including a typhoon and 12" of rain, desert temps in Baja, and -20 Alaskan winters...not bad for $750

Built in 30 min and $30. Last minute trip in my new to me tundra made me build this with info from another member on another site. Couldn't find a topper in time used on CL. I have one now but the tarp tent worked great. Quick and easy setup and tear down. Light weight as well and can be used on the ground.

This is what it is all about! So tired of seeing all of the EXPENSIVE ******** people (myself included) are buying to make the outdoors experience more like a holiday in a 3 star hotel. I miss the good old simple days when we made it happen with what we had and were happy about it. I write this as I just purchase an Exped Megamat 10 for my car camping ventures... hypocrite. :wavey:

I just tested to put up my Napier Backroadz tent for the first time, and it looks very nice so far.

How do you like your oz tent? I see you have a short bed. Where do you carry it when all packed up?

I love the oztent. Very easy to set up. The awning is great. Very solid tent. When packed it is about 6 ft long and about 10 inches in diameter. Depending on the trip I either strap it directly to my roof rack or put it in a lockable thule roof box.

Advantages: Very roomy for 2 - 3 occupants + gear. Ample headroom. Great ventilation. Bombproof. Resists snow loading and high winds well. Durable. Vestibules for storage of excess gear.


Disadvantages: Awkward for one person to set up. Heavy. Bulky. Cost.


All in all, this has been a great tent for situations when I'm truck camping and not moving camp daily. Highly recommended.

Here's my setup when I have the wife along, sportz by napier tent that has surprised me with it durability and usefulness, I have nothing but good things to say about it.

When it's just me, I scale down a little bit and use a cheap bivy tent that I picked up at a surplus store for $20. Sets up fast, packs up small, easier to keep warm and is still going strong after five years!
