going for the SA safari feel of a nice large comfy area with lots of shade for the kids and me nice to have shade here in AZ

not sure have to try to dig up and scan some shots of my other tents when I was younger ?
had a nice Moss back in the 80s and a few others depending on where I was going
spent 6 months straight in a two man tent now I like more room and comfort

I usually use the "Hill, Bill E. Hotel":snorkel: A Mombossa RTT on top of the M416.

I also have a small 2 person, 3 season tent, and a 2 person, 'summer only' tent. I use these for overnight wheeling/fishing trips, when I don't want to drag the trailer with.

If the whole family goes, we use the Eureka 8 man* tent.

* Tent does not sleep 8, it takes 8 people to set the dang thing up!)

I had one of those! One trip was a mysterious, one way. It never made it home.

For the money (~$200), I love my Kelty Green River 4-person. 9'x9' foot print with good standing room (5'11") for a large portion of this area. Nice vestibule area...I like to have the tarp below the tent extend halfway into the vestibule area, giving 3 regions, each of increasing cleanliness: (1) in the vestibule, dirt floor; (2) in the vestibule, tarp floor; and finally, (3) in the tent.
Probably biggest con: vestibule is integrated with fly, and venting is not *great*.
Unfortunately I haven't used it enough to really comment on durability.

After first sleeping in an RTT (first time was -20C) it was amazing. It's a treehouse! I camped in it locally but never really had put it to the test until a night in Moab. Serious winds, rain, lightning, and snow. Bill Burke had to re-stake is ground tent in the middle of the night as the winds were extremely violent. The RTT stayed rigid. Not one drop in the tent and dried very quick in the morning.

Just in B.C. couple weeks ago, had a huge rain storm and again... nice and dry. It's very hard to go back to a regular tent after sleeping in the RTT. I really love pulling it open and crawling inside. Not the greatest shots, but gives an idea of the set up.

The only time I'm on the ground is when I'm on this:

Kelty Green River Six

We have always loved tent camping (RV camping too) but living in Florida makes it a very "Hot" topic. Ventilation, ample shade and interior volume are tantamount, in the "Trying to keep cool" arena. The Kelty GR6 is way to big for backpacking and or kayak camping. It does fit just fine on our SD roof rack. Once it is set up it's like living in a giant translucent igloo. As others have mentioned, ventilation is poor. We depend on cool weather seasons for tenting and 12volt fans in the tent. Our matching Kelty Sunshade serves as a fine "Field Kitchen." The vestibule is huge!
