Project "Autonomous" F-350

I'm looking for something to use with a Honda EU3000i generator as an auxiliary fuel tank. As you can see from my avatar picture, my project is a Type III E350 ambulance I cut in half and I'm building an off-road camper out of.

I thought if I can find a tank to mount between the frame rails, I can get it off of the tongue and free up space for something else, plus it would be better protected in case of a traffic accident. It only needs to be about 12 gals, and I have a marine surface mount tank like you would use in a skiff or small runabout. However, an installed boat tank like that style would be much easier to mount.

Thanks for the info, and good to see the progress you're making!

At first I read your response wrong. That's the fuel/air separator. I finally found some better info about it. It supplies enough back pressure to shut off the fuel nozzle when filling and has rollover protection. I had an idea last night about filling the tank on my motorcycle. That means more research to find a solution for that. I know there are a lot of options from transfer tanks, I'm not sure if I want a gas nozzle attached.

I am almost done with a complete steering overhaul. Straight tie rods, heims, saginaw pump conversion with remote cooler, ram assist, custom pitman arm. I have to give thanks to Crap Industries for letting me use the shop for my build. It's nice to work with people who have the same "out of the box" thinking and the tools to do just about anything.

I'm really enjoying your build. I'm wanting to do a few of the same things on my 2000 f250. how has your heim jointed straight tie rod been holding up? I want to bullet proof my steering and the drag link and tie rods seem like the weak links.

It has been flawless. I push my truck hard and have had no problems at all with the entire conversion.

was it a kit and if so where did you get it? I want to get the linkages as solid as possible along with a redhead steering box, a upgraded pump and a inline cooler.

thanks

Not a kit, I did everything myself with the exception of having the dropped pitman arm tig welded by a professional TMR and the plumbing was done by Lance at Performance Vehicle Plumbing. Charlie at Power Steering Solution built the steering ram and modified my steering box.

Why not convert your Honda to propane? Would be a lot easier to carry a small propane tank, that's what I do.
