Project deer killer - liberty build

I had done a few tiny things but now more things are starting to happen do to hitting a deer and upgrading a few things while I'm at it. The builds going to be fairly mild for now as its leased. Once I buy it out in Sept I will get into a few more bigger projects.

stock before the deer incident. The only things done to the jeep up to this point were a tow hook for the rear receiver and my receiver mounted winch (titan 10,000lbs) that was on my YJ before it was sold.

I went down to the US to pick up some hella's for night driving due to the amount of wild life around here. On the way back, on a dark highway with only one car behind me I proved why I wanted the lights. The car behind me pulled over and other than that only 1 other car passed me in 20 minutes.

once the jeep goes in I will be getting a front bumper with tow hook slots and adding front tow hooks. Going to snap a few more pics today in the light too.

Glad to see the deer gave you a shove into the build! :victory:

Looking forward to updates!

Yeah, hopefully the insurance company paid the comprehensive claim and issued a check so you can do various upgrades of your choice.

Its covered under comprehensive but not getting a cheque. Theres no real aftermarket bumpers I like for the Liberty and not much you can do for a tweaked fender and smashed grill. My liberty doesn't have factory tow hooks so I am getting that "upgraded" and adding tow hooks (body shops installing them for free.

I think I am going to have issues with the receiver mounted winch hitting the spare so I have to figure that one out next.

You definitely need a deer sticker on the driver's side now (as in a tally, like a any good fighter pilot would have)... :)

Good luck with your build. If you have any questions just ask!

Dude! Where could a guy like me get a set of fighter pilot deer stickers? I hit a little yearling this fall and that deer sticker would be awesome.

I've hit three with my Liberty so far, not one scratch the ARB bumper kills them quick and NO DAMAGE at all! :wings:By the time I'm done with them they are almost ready for the freezer!
Oh and the Toyota Camry that stopped in front of me, him towed, me NO DAMAGE !

If you don't like the ARB bumper check out www.rocklizardfabrications.com he has a new front bumper out

I've never hit a deer, but did you keep it? I'm sure you could have a butcher make steaks or something?

I wanted to keep it (never had deer before but figured it'd be a waste not to) but I was in the US and didn't think it would be the best to cross the boarder with it lol.

I got to try the lights out on some back roads with no street lights... wow, what a difference. Very happy with it.

I found my walmart has BOTH the regular and the 500FF's..

but after finding the place online...its hard to buy the 500's when I can get the 700's for $5 less before tax...:smiley_drive:

I'm still not sure if the jeep is going to get in to be fixed before driving to Ontario on Jan 2 but in good news the tow hooks I ordered on Monday showed up today even though I was told they were on back order for 2 weeks.

Also got to use the lights and I am very happy with my choice to go with the hellas. My only issue is the back up light isn't great because of how far forwards its mounted.

Few more things to do then I am more or less "done" for now. I'm switching my rear recovery point to a full loop one that can have a shackle on it too. I also picked up another set of the small lights that I have on the side of the hella's. I'm going to mount these by the license plate on the front bumper so I can have get a little better lighting without having to turn on the hella's and blind everyone for a mile or two.

I also saw a deep cycle battery at walmart in the US for $75 that I am thinking about grabbing after Christmas to throw in the back and use for my receiver mount winch and some camp lighting/power inverter. I also want to grab a fuse block for all my lighting stuff so its not a nest of wires on the battery.

I will probably use these for my camp lights, on sale for $18 each and magnetic base, just have to figure out the best way to hook them up to the deep cycle battery.
