Project MULE - Expedition build on a 1991 1500 4x4 Suburban

I dont have a post on the toughbook info. Its a CF-29 running XP Pro I use the Garmin Software along with Topofusion. The only thing I will be adding to it is a 4 camera system on the truck. I have to build a mount for it still.

I am glad you all are enjoying the build, by all means take what ever idea you come across and go with it. A lot of my ideas are already regurgitated from other build threads across the web.

I really do appreciate all the compliments from all you guys! This build has been really fun, sometimes painful and very stressful but its still good to be able to sit back and enjoy the work we've done (my wife is a huge help in these projects). I have learned from my previous rigs what to do and NOT do which is why this build is going so slow. I am trying to make sure what I do is exactly what I want.

The next upcoming tasks are wiring and that's going to put my patience to a real test. I like wiring and I consider myself pretty good at it but this one is going to put my skills on edge!

I need to take some time away form the truck for the next couple of weeks and finish getting inventory checked in and detailed as we just received our final shipment of parts for the store.

Spent most of yesterday reading and trying to find some pics of a factory dual battery setup in a '87 or older truck or suburban (non specific). I chose 87 or older as dual batteries seemed more popular then.

I have a 1991 1500 Suburban and I have two raised molded bosses on top of my fan shroud. I suspect they are there for a reason.

Ignore the yellow loom wiring, that's temporary until i can figure this out. I am wondering if the cable went over the shroud loomed and mounted via those bosses to keep them secure.

Thoughts?

my 76 came factory with dual batteries but the wiring was routed back to the fire wall and across with the rest of the original harness before popping out over the main distribution block and down the drivers fender so i think you are definatly going to be looking for 80s era set ups i would snap a pic for you but work has me located about 1,500 kilometers from home

I actually had meant to post this in the general fullsize section, which I did and I got some good responses. those Bosses were used for both A/C lines and battery cables.

Dual battery frame build

I started with pulling the factory jack and removed the washer bottle.



I then noticed the charcoal can was siting too high.




In the midst of trying to find a new spot for the can I noticed it had two other holes. and its like a lowering option. it dropped it more then enough to keep it in the same spot.








Let the the fabbing begin!

Im using the artec Industries Dual Odyssey PC1500 bracket. The eight holes are already there from Artec.

A lot of bubble gum and magnets to hold it in place while I measure and figure.

The battery is already sitting about 1/4" higher then it should as its sitting on regular bolt heads and nut flush cap screws. Also the Positive terminal is about 1.5" from the hood plus I will be using some good terminal covers so I am not worried about grounding out.

Long story short, the electrical rack is done. I just have to figure out where to put everything.

2 batteries
1 Air compressor
1 solenoid
1 breaker
2 Relay boxes
1 Fan controller
1 battery charger
1 washer fluid jug.

Been busy on some other projects lately so I have not had a chance to get to the Mule until today.

I still have to spray some undercoating on the lower door jams but painting is DONE!
