Project "Oscar" 5spd D1

Well to follow up from my last post, the new clutch for the fan is absolutely perfect. It was a great option instead of pony-ing up for a LR clutch and I'm glad I went with it.

Also, I just got back from a two day trip to the mtns, as seen here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/68349-NC-Morganton-Mortimer-Linville-Gorge-Brown-Mtn-Trip-10-15-amp-10-16

Had a great time, but it was good to work out some kinks with the disco. Learned a few things:

-Fender trimming is a go. I thought I could get away without doing it, but the disco is so wonderfully flexy that it is gonna happen this week.
-My rotoflex is going, so I'm switching to a u-joint driveshaft and avoiding any further BS
-I noticed I have some squealing coming from the front axle when I am turning sharply at slow speeds. I have to assume its coming from the swivel housings. Luckily (or not) the seals are leaking and I'm gonna re-build both sides completely ASAP.
-Organized storage: Enough said. Roof rack too.
-Although I didn't come close to needing additional fuel, fuel storage is on the list of things to tackle. Probably rear mounted as I don't want any weight up top. If I do a roof rack I will use it for lighter stuff.
-All the little things that are slightly annoying seem to compound when on trips. The door handles that dont want to function properly, the windows that have issues, the reverse light that works intermittently, etc....all add up to being a pain in my @$$ when I'm doing vehicle based trips.

It's not that I didn't think these things would need to be done, it's just that they are that much more evident now. I hope to work on these things and then take some longer trips and see what other issues show themselves.

For what it's worth I'm running the same fan clutch in Arizona. I've been out many times with the temperature way above 110 with no issues.

On my '95 Disco I also run the Imperial metal fan blade. It needs a bit of trimming to clear the shroud, but with the Imperial clutch it clears the front cover and lessens the risk of having the OE plastic blade disintegrate and take out the radiator.

Thanks Ryan.

I've still got a lot to do. I had to take a break from working on the rover yesterday and put new u-joints in my pickup, but that's done, so maybe I'll get something done on it today.

Geez, I didnt realize it had been so long since I posted in this thread. Just came to say that I sold the disco a couple weeks ago. Still have the blue disco, but its getting traded in. Long story short, I couldnt part with my scout and having multiple SUVs didnt make any sense for our family. So now I'm hopping or a truck and the scout will be getting more attention.

I know exactly what you mean. Easy to spread yourself too thin on time and resources. . .

Yep. A couple weeks ago I had two scouts, two rovers, and a truck. In a matter of a few weeks i hope to have that down to just the scouts, one of which Im restoring and selling to my dad, and one newer truck. Should simplify things so I can start making progress with life.

Soon it will just be my scout and a truck. The wife and I are probably moving out West so the fewer vehicles the better.

Man that was a beauty of a DI, however I do understand if you love another vehicle more. Good luck with your Scout and the move!

Thanks! And yes it was nice but I made sure it went to a good home (in the mtns of NH) where it can stretch its legs on some beautiful trails.

Do you have a thread on your Scout here on the forum as well? Be interested to see more on that. Love those old Scouts.

I am the same way, if I must sell it, it must go to a good home. My old Dodge is the same way. I still get to visit it once in awhile!
