Project Victory_Overland 08 LR3 Build Thread!

Thanks Todd. I wonder if that offering if fairly new? I remember Googling for a high output alternator for the LR3 a year or so ago and didn't come up with any options. Anyway, didn't mean to derail Victory's thread... back to the build.

No issues with questions and answers back and forth on anything in my thread. The point of this is to help everyone out with the Triumphs and tribulations of our modifications as our vehicles progress to whatever level we are attempting to achieve. I welcome the constructive convo back and forth from multiple people with the same questions I probably have in my head.

Rover on fellas, Rover on!

Cargo cage

Anyone know what model LR this cargo cage is for? It's sold locally for dirt cheap so I might pick it up and modify it to my sleeping rack set up one day. You know, add it to my list of parts projects in the corner. Hahaha

Looks like a Rangie cargo barrier. Nice snag.

Hope it fits nicely in the LR3 cargo space. It will have to be modified I'm sure but just wondering if it would fit width and height wise?

Range Rover Base or Sport you think?

Your 5 17" alloys are here with me.

Need to remove the tyres and box them but we are getting closer to getting you rolling on 17s.

So stoked. This project might happen sooner than expected because I think I'm feeling some control arm bump and wheel bearing vibration. Could be a full weekend under Victory with the entire front drivetrain removed.

Nothing can ever be easy....Rover On!:smiley_drive:

Cargo/Pet Barrier

Picked this little gem up for dirt cheap on CL today. Excellent condition, and I believe for an RRS since it's so short. I plan to modify it to mount behind my driver/passenger seats on top of my sleeping rack project. The flip down will hopefully give me access to the center mount fridge/freezer with the cage installed.

I think it will work out perfectly to keep the future puppy and all my gear in the back and not take up excess space. The goal will be to make it work in multiple positions in the back if I choose.

Just a quick update on the alternator and belt. The alternator is doing great. I got the belt in and fitted it before heading to Overland expo East. Yesterday the belt disintegrated and we ended up fitting a 3 year warranty one from Advanced auto parts. If day that the 1" belt was too tight. No squealing at all now. Will update again after the return trip. We swapped it out in the dark and cold wind.

Great information on the belt. I'm gonna run this alternator until it quits all together. Some days shes really loud, and others not too bad. Factory with 85k on it so I'm sure it is only before time and the last part needed on the engine accessories.

Let me know what you find on the new belt and part number so we can cross reference quality ones from our local parts shop.

Hi folks;

Just a quick update after 2500 miles. The Alternator had been fine, though with the old belt, I did notice a bit of squeal in the morning ever so slight. So I ordered the 1" shorter belt and we fitted it before heading to the Overland Expo at the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC During the visit there, the new shorter alternator belt disintegrated. Best we can figure, the 1" shorter belt was too tight on the tensioner. We picked up a 3 year warranty belt from the local Auto Parts store, and fitted it, in the dark naturally. We've made the trip back, no squeal and so for so good. I'll give y'all another update after a couple more weeks.

Managed to have an amazing time, despite some rain and wind from the hurricane. A great bunch of folks, in particular I'd like to point out Bold Overland, Tembo Tusk, Rhino-Rack USA and Rocky Top Customz as exceptionally awesome experiences. And of course, ourselves.

I was quite excited to see the great value that the Rhino Awnings are, and about half the price of others I've seen. Definitely on my wish list.

Back to your build--- I'm going to remove the link to the other belt...

I don't know how much you guys paid for this alternator , but I purchased a brand new Denso unit from UK for a 319 USD shipped. At least I know it is a new product and not refurbished.Knowing that my local LR dealer wanted 620 for a refurbished one , I think I have made a good decision with mine

The ebay unit is $239; if it performs as Todd has noted and the belt size gets sorted it is a very good option.

@sunrisehiker do you know what the output is on the Denso? Reason I'm asking is because the point of this was to upgrade the output over the factory alternator for my dual battery set up. If the Denso is a factory rated output than I'm in the same boat as what I have now.

LR3/4 are known for weak charging systems so we are looking for reliable upgrades for heavy duty operation.

Absolutely Ray_G, I'm patiently awaiting the long mileage results on this alternator buy. Also would like to see charging output to see what the gains are going to be compared to factory.
