Project Victory_Overland 08 LR3 Build Thread!

New windshield

Aloha all. I have a broken windshield in my LR3. Can anyone confirm Safetlight is a heated windshield OEM to the factory LR3 window? My insurance covers safelight or deductible for factory replacement.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I do not have a heated one, but I went with non-OE Pilkinton version which was cheaper. Cost a few bucks, but was a fair compromise. Happy with it.

Eric,

Pilkington is the only OEM option. IMO go with that. They're way better than the other stuff. Mine had been hit by many many rocks before finally cracking out. Plus some report that the glass quality from safelite, etc. is less good and harder to see out of at night. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah I have a heated one and I'm thinking since I'm gonna pay the deductible at this point I'm going factory option only. I took a rock to the window directly in my vision and the last time I had a glass fill repair it looked like crap. I'm guessing this one will be no different.

Thanks for the advice guys. Once I get back to Hawaii after XMas I'll look at my options with the insurance.

We just replaced our front windshield here in PHX 2 months and went with the non factory pilkington... only difference was from "factory" was that it didnt have the landrover emblem on it. As a side note, we have to replace it again already due to another rock hitting it on the freeway :(

Well I guess I should be thankful this is my first one to be replaced. I'm heading back to Hawaii just befor the new year so I'll be looking then to get it done. The one advantage I have is that we have great weather so I do not have to worry about the cold for the install concerns.

I'll keep you posted. Pinkington is the way to go for me so hope it's an option.

Any update on the custom bumper you were having designed? or did that stop when you went with the TRs?

It's still in the works with my buddy who lives in NorCal, I owe him some measurements for the winch plate (it will be steel of course) to the frame. I decided on aluminum when I found out how heavy these front steel bumpers were forward of the axle. When I put my rig up on the blocks to start the full suspension components replacement and brakes for the 17" wheels, I'll pull the bumper off and get him what he needs. The TR is super easy to get on and off but I want to be able to leave it off for a week or so in case our design needs tweaking.

For the record, the plan is to make sure the winch plate is solid and in the right location where we want it. Like posted earlier, this is by no means a rush or priority project since I have the TR My buddy has a fab company and my pet projects are surely not his priority either.

If I can pull it off, the winch plate will work with in a hidden winch factory plastic bumper or aluminum bull-bar type final design.

Very cool idea. Will keep my eye on the progress. Its neat youve got a friend who can fab stuff for ya, even if it isnt a huge priority! Cheers 🍻

Yeah very cool idea if I can pull it off with his skills. If we can make it work so its a good fit for all, then maybe we sell a few on the side if the jigging works. I don't expect to make a bunch of money on this stuff so that is never in the cards.

I'm working on aluminum control arm protection right now........we will see how that works out! lol

Last East Africa Trip

I spent a few weeks out in East Africa just recently and figured I would share a few of the photos from some play time. Nothing too significant as I do not have many play photos but memories nonetheless! I will try and scrub through and see how many pictures I have that are worth sharing of our trip. We put over 1000 miles under us in about a bit over a week......much of it off-road in the bush!

That trip looks like a blast!

On a side note, when I lived in HI there was a wonderful little Korean restaurant in Kailua that made the best kalbi. Any clue if it's still there?

There are some fantastic Asian Restaraunt's here on Kailua. We have all markets covered for sure.

Korean we have Ohana BBQ, Kim Chee, and Ohana Kareoke Grill and Bar! Can't say I've made it to kareoke but I've had the other two and they are both fantastic.

Best sushi........Tokoname Japanese......tell Mark I sent you and ask for Eric's special rolls; I have about 5. Lol

Tried to shoot you a PM to pick your brain on your bumper project, I am in the works of getting some bumpers designed and then hopefully made in the next month or so!
