They're spectacular

Dangit, guess I won't be retiring anytime soon. I was thinking of something like that a few months ago camping. Mine was a little more refined. But that one at least is one size fits most.

yep, they work well, too.
in australia you can get those 'socks' like js has them in every wallmark-kinda-store for all kinds of vehicles to fit exactly over the door.

but i personally prefer the fix installed ones. in highly mosquitoe infested areas, it's nice to just climb in the back without opening the door - that is if you sleep inside the vehicle :).
i've been planning to do the same for the tailgate, but haven't gotten around to it... will happen sooner or later :)

The XXXpedition Sight-Out™ shades are out of light cloth.

With the tinted windows is is absolutely impossible to look inside the vehicle, but it is possible to see out. This way we can retain our privacy and yet check out what's outside, so we do not miss any action.
(you can see they are nicely ironed :costumed-smiley-007)

Here is the view from the outside. Without the Sight-Out™ shades one would see into the interior, especially during the day and when blocking off reflection. With the Sight-Out™ shades the window works like a mirror. Nothing to see but reflection!

I would like to know more about these.. where did you get them/ what cloth are they if you made your own... I would really like to know more. Thanks

i came up with the idea, because every once in a while we just sleep in a side street in a city. since it's often illegal, we don't want people to know that we do that. so it's great if you can see out while nobody can see in...
how much do you pay for the info??? :)))))))))))))))))

but seriously:
the cloth is a silk used for lining. there are different kinds and i'm not the expert. i had my mum look into it, since it's her business :)))
the cloth is very light and slightly transparent. with the dark background inside the vehicle, it is impossible to look in.
i had velcro sewed to the curtains' corners. a self-adhesive velcro is glued to the hardtop where the curtains can be stuck on.
i love it - it really works.
hope that helps!

well, it is always good to check the surrounding before you get out of the vehicle, too. there might be a lion waiting outside :)))

you are welcome!
i suppose it shouldn't be too hard to find...
i made templates out of newspaper for my mum to sew it after.
the side windows on the jk are pretty square but the rear needed to be fitted pretty well due to the wiper motor...

somebody asked how well one would see through the Sight-Out™ shades:
with one layer it's pretty darn good.
here's another pic i took to show it better:

with the cloth in two layers you cannot see out at all...

ok, after some time "off", some more news, even if they're bad...

i've been trying to get wheels and tires (as you might have figured for the last two years). the TÜV does its thing to make it mega-complicated.
you cannot get rims through TÜV except they are approved for a specific vehicle - so there's only a handful available. the rims which i would get sponsored, i find ugly. the rims i would like (pro comps) come with a certificate but i'd pay almost 3 grand (US$) and that's without the TÜV check - then put tires on top...
i could buy a second car for it...

so i have to figure out if i can get the mopar steel rims for a jk here for a decent price with TÜV-certificate... might not work either :-(

we'll see - i keep you posted...
