i love my extra special switch!!!
i mimiced the highbeam lever. when i have the wide and high beam on, i can switch both with this extra switch. very handy on dark roads when somebody comes your way. (warning: it is not legal in many states to use roof mounted lights on the road:costumed-smiley-007)

and that's where i mounted the switches - in the overhead panel above the ARB switches (don't have a built-in pic yet):
left to right
wide beam - high beam - celis, standing light - rear beam
(i think the celis are great for sand dune driving - they can be seen WAY before the regular lights)

YOur lights work well from that back position? YO don't get a shadow from the top of the roof?

ok, here's your answer, RgrBox:
the lights work great from back there. yes there is a bit of a shadow, but that is covered by the stock low beam.
i think it's perfect. i did have the problem on the old XJ that there was a glare on the windshield when it was dusty/dirty (and it usually is).

in this case that doesn't happen! i'm more than happy with it...

Thatnks for the answer Sven.. I was also wondering about your open camping in Greece. Did you guys just camp anywhere? Is this legal in Greece. As you can see I also live here in Europe, and just spent several weeks camping in Austria and Germany.. and it was all private camp spots.. so a bit crowded.

well, it's not legal everywhere in greece but during off season they seem not to care. we've seen plenty of motorhomes camp right next to a sign 'NO CAMPING'
we never did that - we found more than enough nice places.
however, since we sleep in the jeep with dark windows, you wouldn't know that we're in there - so we also just park in a quiet side street and sleep there...
not legal but nobody knows...

The XXXpedition Sight-Out™ shades are out of light cloth.

With the tinted windows is is absolutely impossible to look inside the vehicle, but it is possible to see out. This way we can retain our privacy and yet check out what's outside, so we do not miss any action.
(you can see they are nicely ironed :costumed-smiley-007)

Here is the view from the outside. Without the Sight-Out™ shades one would see into the interior, especially during the day and when blocking off reflection. With the Sight-Out™ shades the window works like a mirror. Nothing to see but reflection!

For some things the rollbar is actually a bit in the way. Especially when trying to use as much interior space as possible. I finally found a solution to my problem - use the rollbar. I mounted some storage containers on the bar for light stuff like the Sight-Out™ shades or hats. I also used the tie-downs to hold a flashlight.

this time i used self adhesive velcro and mounted the screens this way. clean and low-profile

yes, it works well.
only thing is: it must be a quality self adhesive velcro, otherwise the temperatur changes in the vehicle will wrinkle the velcro, dirt gets between velcro and vehicle and it doesn't stick any more. besides the gap created will let in mosquitoes

How did your tires hold up on the trip.. on and off road?

well, the question was asked in another thread, but i feel it belongs here - although those are not the tires of choice

well, those are still the stock tires...
on the road they are fine - they're holding up great (now 50.000 km (30.000miles)) and are still in very good condition.
off-road i was a bit worried, especially in morocco when we went 70km/h (45mph) on surface like the pic below:

but they held up fine with only one minor sneeking leak from a nail (not sure if from the road or off the road )
so i can't complain other than they are too small...

Since our dog sleeps in the truck, we tried covering his kennel with mosquito net, but felt it restricted air flow too much. Last trip my wife made these:

Your mounting method is more discreet, but ours works with the soft doors. :-D Works great for the little guy in the back...
