Propane Storage

I hand tighten the caps/plugs I use. Never smell any propane and when I undo the cap plug there's been a release of pressure many times. If the bottles roll around the caps can come loose.

There was a post on here somewhere that said the seals on the 1lbs tank are not very durable which limits the number of refills.

A 1 pound propane container holds 9 cubic feet of propane. A pelican case is not going to contain anything.
It'd be interesting to see 9 cubic feet of gas...air would be fine...pumped into a Pelican 1600 case; Surely it would bloat up and bulge, but I'm not convinced that pressure would blow the latches. A Pelican case would not contain a propane explosion, of course.

no. it would not "blow the latches" it would simply leak past the seal. A big Pelican Case is 3? cubic feet. Less all the space the stuff in it occupies. At least triple that volume in the form of propane will leak past the seal and on finding a source of ignition expand 30 times to 180 cubic feet or more, which is maybe the entire volume of an SUV. .... instantly.

Someone asked kind of incredulously.... do you store propane tanks outside at home.... well yes lots of us do just that.

I got to use these refillable bottles on a 6 day trip and wanted to give thoughts. Put them in a sealed case, stored upright except one was on its side. Filled at home with the flame king fill kit. Went from sea level to 7000ft. Opened the case and strong smell of propane, no smell outside the case. Friend put one bottle on his heater buddy and the tent filled with propane smell, tried in my big buddy heater and same thing. Left the bottlles in mine and put to the side, smell went away, Seemed to be working fine after initial leak. Instructions say to fill to 80% or whhen propane vent stream becomes solid, i did that but may have overfilled them. Ill try again and give a full review.
