1SAR39,

Thanks for the detailed answer. You just gave me a direction for many a night of research.

Incredible where technology has taken this... when i first looked a the microkopter, it was still a DIY, open source
project...and for a new guy, jumping into the game, it was a bit overwhelming.

Now because of this thread i see there is a off the self system ready.
It also seems like it was designed to modded and capable of fulfilling my requirements.

thanks.

I can't really help you but I have seen quite a few amateur videos in the past year that use this technology. Guess I’m getting old; the go-pro is still a “new” thing for me. I was truly shocked when I first noticed hovering stable images in a ‘homemade’ video of a jeep doing its thing. I'm sure the info is out there and easily obtainable just not on this forum. :)

I am very interested in a quadcopter system. Being able to use FPV and a GoPro can assist in recon, research, and planning hikes. Of course doing some awesome video of the places I go doesn't hurt either.

How many folks have one of these DJI Quadcopters? What model did you pick up? Are you happy with the purchase and quality of video you were able to achieve using a GoPro? It really looks like a cool option for different angles and such during recording.

These are so interesting and tempting to add to my list of toys for my next big Overland adventure.

When not using FPV, how hard is it to get the camera pointed where you want?
Can you typically move the camera independently of the copter, or is it solidly mounted and you just rotate the copter to move the camera?
How can you possibly know which way the camera is pointing?

Thanks,
-Dan

if you are flying a phantom its easy. there are different color lights under to copter so you can tell which way it is pointing. with the gimble you have manual control over the up and down angle of the camera and then its automatic on the other 2 axis. its very easy to fly and figure out while you are doing it
