tbi works fine

haha...all I was saying was that in 180,000 miles, my mother-in-laws 1999 454 has NEVER a problem, same for my dads pickup...

but both my blazer and suburban had issues with the 350tbi, as does the buddy mentioned above with the 700r4 trans.

These were/are all professionally maintained engines.

so maybe three lemons, huh guys? lol. nope..just not a reliable platform, IMO

Thats all I'll say...Best regards!

Get a Burb with an IFS, and 454 or 350 Vortec, best motor ever for a gasser. Also get it in the 3/4 ton and make sure it has the 4L80E tranny, it is a Turbo400 with an overdrive.
Remember, they put Turbo 400 trannies in school buses.

You can always put a front dana 60 under it later, and you will have a solid rig, and can find parts (if needed) in any small town.
It is always easier to change axles, than to mess with engines, so get a good solid power plant.
To bad Dodge didn`t make an SUV with a 12 Valve Cummins :sombrero:

I would have bought a Burb or Blazer with a Vortec, and a 4L80E tranny if I had a big family, but it is just my wife and I, so I got me a 95' Dodge Cummins, 22mpg, and super low range offroad.

I run a full sized blazer, have owned suburbans, s10 blazers, Extented cab f-150, still have a tahoe, etc.

A full sized Blazer is great. I feel like I can go anywhere compared to my old extended cab long bed f-150 or even the suburban was pretty darn long. You can sleep two in the bed, more if the kids are small, but it would be tight. As far as cargo room, it is drastically more than a mid sized suv. Sure the wheel bases are similar, but the amount of room in a 6 foot truck bed (which is what the k5 has) is simply far more than other SUV setups. The Tahoe would also make a great vehicle, I love ours, though it's set up for momma driving.;-) The vortec rocks too.

You will pinstripe a full size with brush, so don't spend a bunch on paint.

TVs are only on part of the trip to and from then not on at all while we are camping fishing or what ever. TBs just help keep the young kids entertained on long drives. Was my only saving grace when we spent Christmas in Denver. The 12month old at the time would stop crying when the tv was on.

I am a bit late to this party, but I think you would do fine to pick up a used NBS body style Chevy truck ( 2000.5 to 2006 ). I have taken my Tahoe to AZ and back and just ran through the Geo Washington National Forest with no issues.

But, as pointed out, you can expect to pick up some brush marks on the paint. That is fine by me!
