I found a really nice 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon with 37,000 miles

Loaded with every option

I am just so uncertain about a 5.7L and paying $30k for an 8 year old truck......even if it does only have 37,000 miles

30k is high, but they might hold firm and see if they get it since it’s a desirable truck.

I have a friend that 2 years ago found a mint 06 2500 4x4 CTD with 20k on it... it was mint, he paid 35k, the seller wouldn’t budge at all. He wanted it so he bought it, it’s a nice truck, but I wouldn’t have done that.

I would look around. Bet you can find a newer model for around that price.

I agree, the 2011 is a nice truck......but it's also priced too high

For 3k more, I have found some 2016s with the 6.4

I saw a 2017 on Facebook with around 20K asking $42K. Looked to be fully loaded. If you can hold off a few months, you may find some 2018s in that range.

42k is way over my budget......thats not gonna happen

Gotcha. One thing on used PW, make sure they come with the factory winch and mount, or they give you a discount if they’re missing. Seems like a lot of people pull the mount and winch to sell when they trade/sell the truck. The mount and winch are expensive, and somewhat hard to come by.

I like the PW for what it is. That being said, if you can save several thousand dollars between a non-PW 2500 and a PW, you can use that money to upgrade the truck and have similar capabilities at less cost.

Kinda depends on how you define 'similar' and what the price delta of the two trucks you could find are. Selectable front and rear air lockers, installed with compressor would be an easy 3.5-4k (more if you do it right and re-gear while your in there, +600.) Suitable winch and mount, ie bumper, another 2-3k easy. All boils down to how the OP is really going to use the rig.

Agree that it all depends how he will use it. My point is, he might be able to find a regular 2500 or a 3500 for a low enough price to add those items.

The 5.7L is a great motor. Like I’ve said before, I had one in my 2004 HD Hemi and now in my 2012 Power Wagon. If you can get the price down a little I see no reason to avoid the 5.7L.

I test drove a 6.4L 2500, impressive power for a gas motor

I will try to drive a 5.7, but I already know I won't be happy with it. It might surprise me though

Both the Ram 6.4 gasser and the Superduty 6.2 are great motors.
Refined, loads of power, and an excellent track record.

Unless you absolutely cannot live without the massive torque right off idle their diesel counterparts provide, you wont be disappointed with either.

I'd probably get a gasser in the future. 2500 too as I can't get into the rotary shifter on the 1/2 tons.
There's few Ram gassers in the neighborhood. I love the exhaust sound on the V-8's.
