You're talking about the pin holding the diff gears right?

That pin holds the spiders? Is the carrier just made from crap material?
 
Probably melted down old shopping carts. I can't believe the casting looks like that, but the pin is relatively unscathed. The splintering is interesting. Case hardened on the outside, that skin split and moved away, all the soft metal in the middle got worn away?
 
It's just my opinion, but I think the 10 spline rangie diffs and series diffs were better than the later discovery 24 spline and DII. I know lots of rangie owners that never had an ounce of trouble on 32's. Mine looked fine when I pulled them (10 spline, '91 RRC) and the oil always looked great. And I wheeled the living hell out of them on 235's.

Regardless, you can't go wrong with any of the common setups - truetrack, detroit, or ARB. it's a matter of pocketbook and personal preference.
