Recovery point, tow jaw?

If you mean this type

I haven't seen them, or the 3.5 tonne, anywhere this side of the pond.
Wow, that isn't what I was thinking of, but it is interesting.

What I was thinking of is more like the "VarioBlock" hitch coupler on the rear of Sonke's hard sided FJ. I have yet to find the picture that I saw of the part attached to the chassis, but these are some pictures of the 'attachments.'

EDIT: I don't recall which is which, but the mating parts look a bit like this:

I can't quite find the picture I want, but these kind of give you an idea what I'm talking about for the tow bar bracket.

Just, without the adjustable portion. I'll get a 2x6" 1/4" wall HSS, and cut one face away leaving me with a wide U-section. It will bolt up to the bumper using 4 holes on a DB pattern. It'll give me a 12" drop, and the bottom will be braced back to the frame. It will take a little more work to install and remove. But I'll get a huge drop I need, while still being "stiff". And when it's removed, zero effect on departure angle.

Very interesting concept, I've never see that sort of setup, though I do have one of those Dixon Bate pintles on my Lightweight.

What's the purpose of that design, over and above the 4 bolts already holding it on? I guess it's stronger but... why not just use bigger bolts if you need more strength?

Look closely at Soenke's pics that I re-posted. The SW modeled parts take the place of the N.A.-common 2" socket receiver tube and slider. By having more than one or the other (forget which was bolted to the truck) you can interchange between a tow jaw, a pintle, or a ball fairly easily without the bulk of the N.A. method for doing this. There is some method for locking so that it can not rotate and come apart, but I do not recall the details of that feature.

Ok, I think I get it. The bolt holes are not to lock it together, but one of them bolts to the bumper, the other is to bolt whatever device you want to the block. Then they just twist together. Neat.

I'm sort of going for the same thing, but instead of interchange blocks, I'll just bolt things right to the bumper. Slower but... oh well.
