the Red is really kicking other maufacturers in the pants to compete, so my hat's off to them for making a pretty cool gadget that forces others to be smaller/more flexible while retaining very high quality high def video. I use mainly film, so my hd video experience is limited to only a few months with the panavision/sony f-900 (abortion!) on a show called jericho last year. I'm learning quickly though. I recently got to try Panavision's hd camera, the Genesis with their flash drive. It is really nice, but way more $$$ and bigger/heavier.

the first picture is the Red on a friend's steadicam in NY, it has a prime lens, mattebox, remote focus, xmitter, video downconverter, onboard battery and flash drive (with 8 gig cards) -- I'm guessing this set-up weighed about 25 to 28 lbs (wish I had the actual numbers) with the battery.

the next two are the Panavision camera/flash drive set-up on my steadicam, it was 33 lbs without a battery (but not a true comparison because I had a different lens/more accessories on the camera and I don't know offhand the differences (if any) in image quality).

the last picture is of the afore mentioned "abortion" (which is pretty much the current industry standard) with gyros added to give my lower vertebrae some love (I'm shorter now).
