Reflective Tarp Under Mattress

I appreciate the thought! You're making me think... :)Wow1: )
.
So if I did that, would the blanket retain moisture, and thus never needing the AC mat? But soaking the mattress(es)? *I don't know!*
.
I've even thought about putting the blanket between the 2 1/2" OEM foam pad and the 2" memory foam pad (?)
.
I bought the REI version today. I will be installing it (somewhere) soon, as we're planning an off-road/camping trip to Death Valley next month...
.
Interested in input! :sombrero:

Any body?
.
Are the blankets water resistant? Will they allow moisture through? If so, then under the mattress and over the AC mat might be optimal, no?

They don't work the way the OP intends. In solid contact they don't do much good. They're really more of a vapor barrier. If you ever have to use one around your body, keep it loose about you. Close the edges together and tuck it in under you at the bottom, but keep an air gap with your body if you can. They do 'reflect' but they work more by trapping warmer air close to your body / keeping cold air off you.

OP needs a dense foam ground pad for what he wants. or better yet an inflatable air mattress between his mattress proper and the outer shell. You need an air gap.

eta what the OP needs for his idea is something like attic 'bubble foil' insulation. It's like mylar coated bubble wrap. http://www.ecofoil.com/All-Products/Bubble-Foil-Insulation

or something like the dense foam pool rafts

That will give you the insulating effect the OP is after. Some, anyway.

a thought as I pass through : )

OK, not really apples for apples but certainly _one way_ to address not only under-mattress-condensation...
BUT bringing the level of a 2" mattress up to par with a pillow top seally.

Not having a RTT I can't speak of available height for the mattress when closed, but if there is room for placing a 2.5" gell topper... then...

For those not necessarily on a budget, there is an item used in the yachting world that we incorporated into our bed in camp. It is called the "Froli Sleep System".
While a queen size unit will put you back about $350 bucks, it will put your rig into the luxury class, and only add about ~8lbs max, probably less than a queen size gell topper that is now no longer needed.

Here it is a shot of the FSS pieces:

put them all together and ready to put the pad on top:

This is extreme for a RTT bed, though your spouse/SO would LUV you for it!! The maiden voyage of our FSS in the van was a 10 night trip up a forestry road in the PNW. It rained quite a bit and we spent allot of time indoors relaxing on the bed listening to the rain. When we woke up the first morning back home in our Sealy Pillow Top queen my wife asked if I would order a FSS for use at home. I did...and we've been on one since ~2011 : )

A PS thought... As an FYI, Reflectix works optimally if there is at least a 1" airspace between it and ...say the bottom of your pad... Place the Refectix on your RTT base, then the FSS system, and you would have ~1.5" to 2.5" of airspace : )

Enjoy the holiday,
Thom

Interesting. I'd like to try that.
