Very nice!

Thanks!

Not one, not two - four 5gal cans? Nice, but that's about 300lbs of fuel :Wow1:

Yeah, I need an upgrade in suspension now.. crap. But it was a better deal for a pack of four and it's better to be prepared when needed. My swing out only holds two but I could throw the other two on the roof if I use all four.

Wait, isn't a gallon of fuel approx 6lbs? So total would be 125lbs for four cans at about 30lbs each can?

Now you're ready for gonemoab

:D :D It is tempting!

Rust does a body good.
And worth it. Still lots of space on trails. Don't wait too long or you miss out on the shirt.

oops, yes you're right ~6.5lbs/gal + weight of the gas cans so closer to 170lbs but I see what you mean, you won't be needing all four all the time. I have two 3gal cans and never needed more but have dropped to the last 1/4 tank on the final stretch out to civilization so from that perspective it is definitely comforting to know you have a little extra if you need it. My enemy is weight, I've weighed my truck fully loaded and it's a little past the GVWR and wouldn't want to go beyond that not because the axle and suspension can't handle the weight but because the brakes even with the upgrades aren't anything to write home about.

I know what you mean. I don't want to overload my suspension but the rears are already under stress from the rear swingout. Adding another few hundred pounds of fuel, gear and another person would make it cry for mercy.

Nice grab, those NATO cans are awesome. I have some CARB cans and I hate them. They work and are very tough, but it takes FOREVER to empty them.

I've read the horror stories with non-NATO cans. Especially the leaky crappy CARB ones. It's time to get rid of that junk and get the real thing! Goes to show you the government does nothing but regulate you to death and ruin things. Dance puppets, dance!

Thanks Kurt! Hopefully this May trip happens as the gf and I need a little getaway. Work has been crazy lately.

Well I've come to the realization that I need to lift the rear end a tad since the weight of the rear swingout is really bogging down the suspension. Some big clunks on dips. Calmini HD Rear Shackles will be on the way here this week. I'm hoping this will bring back the height back to near stock, or a little more. I contemplated getting an AAL, but I was worried about a harsher ride which I don't need in combination with E-rated BFG's.

And I'll be ordering front sway bar center bushings. I'm hoping this will cure the annoying squeak as the current ones are toast. Warm, buttery toast.

In my opinion it would be more beneficial to AAL then to do longer shackles. The AAL will lengthen the life of the leaf pack by sharing the load and not bottoming out so often. I suggest an AAL because you have permanent weight in the back and your X will get heavier as you do more upgrades. If you just wanted to raise the rear with the stock weight I would just do a shackle swap because an AAL will make it super stiff. Just my .02¢.

I might be making the same trip out in may (depending on which wknd)!

You make a good point Demo. With the more permanent weight added it should be more beneficial than shackles. I might do that then. 3leaf or 2leaf AAL from 4x4parts?

Hope to see you on the trip if it goes through!

I would do the 3 AAL. If its too stiff you can always remove one and when you add more permanent weight you can add it back.
