The T-34,35, 36 are all 5 speed transmissions. One is an overdrive, I forget which, the other two are direct in 5th. Some guys say the OD one has too big of a jump between 3 and 4 for heavy towing, the direct trans are a little closer geared.
I think your t-case would be a 205 but I know NP202's were installed too. Tag on the back of the t-case should tell you what it is.
If its a 3/4 ton its probably got the 44 front and 60 rear. They do have a funky 6 lug pattern on some of the 3/4 tons of that era though.
A lot of the Travelalls of that era had the 304 but it all depends on how the original customer had it built. If you get it do some research and get a line setting ticket for it. That will tell you exactly what it left the factory with.
I have heard the same rumor about National Geo using these for expo rigs but haven't really seen much info on it.

yeah, thanks, I meant T18/T19...the "toploader"...my bad. :)

So when you dragging it home? Watch for rust on the cowl. Stand on your head and look under the dash, way up under the dash. The c-series like to rust out there. Binder planet has some good articles on what to watch for and what some guys have done to fix it. I think that is the one really major problem they have. You can swap P/S and P/B and axles off later d-series(68-75) internationals fairly easy.

we'll see. possibly this weekend. According to the seller it drives just fine, so hopefully it'll be a nice cruise back to our pad...

If you get it, or even before, there's a slight chance the line ticket is still in it. Drop the glove box all the way open so you can see the back side of it, they were stuck on there. Not sure where on the older ones.

I have to say, owning an IH is like owning Land Rovers. You tend to become complete nuts about them.

There was a cool travel article in 70's 4WD magazine about a guy who drove an IH double cab down the Pan American highway. He'd christened it "Ol' Overkill, because of IH's apparent tendency to, if in doubt, make it stronger.

I've had a '63 Scout 80 with a turbo 152 cu in slant 4; a 1975 INC Scout II, bought new from the IHC dealer in San Francisco (!); a 1970 800B with a 392 inch V-8, 727, Dana 300 and 4 fuel tanks; a 1970 Traveller with another 392 cu in V-8, T-19, Dana 300, Holley Projection. They ALL got just about the same milage...12 - 14 around town, 12 - 14 on the highway. Scouts don't need a fuel gage, just give them an 'hour meter'...they will go through a tank of gas in about the same amount of time regardless of how you are driving.

Absolutely LOVE Scouts!

Anyone heard of or done a 4bt or a 6.2L Diesel swap into a Travelall?

Anyone have experience with the IH 304 v8 line?
There's a fellow on the Ford-trucks.com site who put a 4BT in a Bronco. They're heavy and loud, but bulletproof. There's also a Youtube video of one in a Ford truck that gives an idea of how it sounds.

Awesome, ok. thanks for info.

Can I assume that the mpg and power ratings are similar to the big three?

Ford 302 = IH 304....chevy 350 = IH 345, etc...

I doubt it in both cases. My '66 1100A 4X4 got 7-10 mpg with a standard, and I'd bet the Travelall has a Chrysler 727 in it, so it'll get less mileage, most likely.
HP ratings will be lower, but torque ratings will be a bit higher. Every piece on these engines is built heavy duty; valve guides are very large, cam driven by gears, forged cranks, etc.

My grandfather has a 69, I dont' remember what V-8 it has but I do remember the 9 mpg no matter what the truck was pulling...lol. He pulled a really big airstream around the America every summer for about 20 years while his kids were growing up. Only complained about the gas mileage.... we thought he'd keep the thing forever...lol
