Rover Sacrilege

meh.
I honestly don't see any difference between it ans a Series someone has ripped the entire drivetrain out of, replaced with engine/gearbox/axles from something else and put huge tires on. Just the other direction.

Based on the picture posted I would have to say that truck has a ton of potential. Dig the concept, hopefully they can pull it off.

Just here...
I saw this a little bit ago. I think it was on ebay maybe? Anyway, I think its awesome. The 'no expense spared' comment is a dumb one as that sign is probably there by design. Its a rat rod. People have been doing this sort of thing with American cars since, well the beginning. I think its great. Throw a turbo set up on there and itd be pretty peppy. Certainly faster than the lump that used to sit in the front.

Heres another awesome Series (1949)

A cool alternative to having a spare tire on the hood!

"ripped" out ? Come on. There is fair degree of skill required to re-power, re-transmission, re-brake and re-steer a land rover or any "antiquated" vehicle. It is far easier to rebuild something to "stock" with sub-standard parts and the dwindling supply of original equipment parts. This vehicle is goofy, so what?? They are just metal that we are attached to, for whatever twisted reason.
Cheers, Matthew

I never said there wasn't. Just that, to me, neither is more or less sacrilegious than the other. Just a different end game.
Most of the time I don't really care one way or the other. The only time I do is when it's a rare model.

I think it's hilarious...wasn't there another one similar to that, but with a 914-ish drivetrain?

At least you can imagine that the body panels will last longer than if it were out trialing.

Look at it this way. Chances are the rest of the original series rover was probably nothing more than a heap of rust and broken parts. This guy put what was left to good use rather than sending it to the scrapper where it would be turned into Budweiser cans. On one of the military jeep forums I used to frequent there was always some sort of banter about "Bubba" doing this or doing that to some poor vintage jeep. What they forget is if it weren't for "Bubba" many of these vehicles wouldn't be around in any shape what so ever.

Well put.

They left the dings, I see no sacrilege... I see someones appreciation of the shape and body of an old land rover, that's OK. :coffee:
