107 is one

Maybe I should have said, What were the names that Land Rover gave license to produce in other countries during the Series I production. And to what countries?

And I didn't cheat. I looked it up after I made the guess. To paraphrase Mark Twain "proficiency at Rover trivia is a sign of a misspent youth".:)

Or from a great movie-

Man in Black: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.
Vizzini: Wait til I get going! Now, where was I?

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
Santana, the Spanish company...

I have driven several Santanas including incredibly crude and underpowered late 60s and 70s diesel models. But they were very interesting and unique.

Bugger. I was thinking of th photo w/ Winnie half in / half out of the drivers's door.

Looks like "Minerva" might be missing???

Santana was not around during the SI years. Monkeyboy got one of the 2. The minerva was from what country?

Before going back on duty

And for those few who will not sleep without knowing the answer.

Name of founder....Spencer & Maurice Wilks

Other engine...Rolls Royce

Licensed models....Minerva (Belgium) and Tempo (Germany)

Wheel base changes...80-86-88. A 107 was available as well. Can't remember the year of introduction. Pretty early though.

A couple more Trivia Questions:

What was the first show the Land Rover was shown at?
What year were the lights taken out behind the grill?
Name of coach builder that made a custom rear for the short wheel base Land Rover?
Name the different variations of the original model.

Hey Blair,

Wasn't the year 1971 that the series III came out with the lights on the sides?

We need to do a ride one of these days.

Paris?

1969 lights moved to the outside. Very early 69's were called "bugeyes".

Tickford

80" 86" 107"

Amsterdam.

The series II changed the lights from behind the grill to the same position, but with the grill not covering the lights. That was with the SII intro in 1958?

So why was the 86 changed to 88 and the 107 to 109? I mean what was the technical push behind these changes even though not all 109s and 88s benefitted from the development?

Much more versatile, much more use as a power source, able to drive things, to have power take-offs everywhere, and to have all sorts of bolt-on accessories, to be used instead of a tractor at times, to be able to do everything!"

This thread could get long!!

That was the brief given to Gordon Bashford in 1947 from Wilkes, I believe.
