Rover Warrior.... LR3 Build engagement pics

zelatore - so I suspect the net of this is that the Die Hard 31 Plat may indeed fit in the aux location on the driver's side without the worry of height interference since the interference you encountered was in the primary location on the passenger side and jwest didn't have height issues with the 2150 (same as the DH-Plat-31) in the aux location.

Also jwest mentioned the Ody 1350 fits perfect in the primary location with no mods. This is a 95 ah battery vs the 2150's (and DH Plat 31) 100 ah. Seems like this would be the better choice for going into the primary location for most folks as its only a 5 ah difference and especially for those of who have 2 batteries.

I talked with Odyssey and did my own comparisons to come up with the 1350 for primary location as I wanted the most duration out of it for colder temps and accidental things like if the radio were on a lot but the "hunting" lights off feature really makes packing up all day or camping a safer situation for the primary battery. I also chose the Odyssey simply for the expectation that it will survive many nearly full depletion better than other batteries but obviously some are similar in that regard.

I'd have to get some detailed photos but I think you are correct that the 2150 required height mods for the leads. I was very busy with my business at the time so it made a lot more sense to pay the shop to do all of the installations even though we would meet to discuss the plan and they would then implement it and make adjustments as needed during the process. Flying Circus Englich Cars in Durham NC did all the work on this LR3, my 2004 Disco2 (dual batteries, on board air, 2" OME lift, 400w inverter, 6 roof lamp switches, 2 driving lamps, and wiring 3 more 12v sockets) and my 1996 Disco1 (Billstiens, dual battery, driving lamps, 12v sockets)

One of the most subtle but very cool things on the lr3 build was repowering several interior lamps and power sources from the 2nd battery for worry-free camping use. These are the 3rd row reading lamps, 1st and 2nd row outboard reading dome lamps, 3 extra 12v sockets (1 ea side at very rear cargo area on top of the plastic above the little gear hatches and 1 at driver side just below the cup holder for the 3rd row. This is the one I use for the ARB fridge so I can get to it easily in a fully packed vehicle), of the two 12v factory sockets in the front center stack, the left one "12v" is also powered from 2nd battery.

The inverter is off course from 2nd as is the air compressor under the bonnet. I plan to change out the inverter to a higher wattage and higher grade pure sine wave. I changed out all the interior lamps to LED except for 3rd row reading because frankly, the warm oem lamps are nicer for sleeping inside and aren't too bright.

I have not used the roof wiring in several years. It was a premature idea that really came from the D2 days when I actually needed better lighting for driving but the lr3 headlamps are pretty incredible on their own. I would like to set up more of a perimeter layout for the 6 roof outlets and later did that on the D2 with 2 per side actually mounted to the rack towers along the side. It was really nice for camping set up or seeing 360 surroundings with the other 2 at the rear corners. These were on 4 switches I think for various combinations.

Jwest:
can you post some close up pictures of both your positive post (with the rubber cap off) and the negative post? it looks as though for the negative post that you removed the threaded stud and used a bolt down to reduce the height even further. is this also the case on the positive?

Yes, I know the stud was changed for height restrictions but the tech also ran 2 grounds. One runs down to the bottom of the actual frame and I forget where the other one goes. There's a 40A fuse. The kit was a super simple but so far still effective Wrangler Manager. It has worked flawlessly over 101,000 miles and 8 years. Back then in 2006 I was not aware of all the other sources for stuff. The internet wasn't quite what it is today!

jwest - thanks for the info in your two posts above. I'd love to be able to see a close up photo of each of the studs on the 2150 with the rubber caps off. I want to see if the shop just cut the studs down or if they removed the studs and used a bolt instead to bolt down. I'd also like to see a pic of the 1350 in the primary location as well. If you have a chance would really appreciate if you could post pics of these.

One more question for you. With the 1350 being shorter in height by 2 inches when compared to the 2150, do you think the 1350 would be a better fit in the AUX location as well given that would elevate the height issues ? The 1350 is a 0.08" wider and 0.9" longer than the 2150, so that extra inch in length or 0.08" in width may be too much to fit in the AUX location but from your photo it looks like it could fit. My thought here is that the 5 ah difference may be a good trade off verses having to deal with the height issue. Your thoughts?

here are the 2150 dimensions (LxWxH): 13.0 x 6.8 x 9.41 (100 aH & 77.8 lbs)

and the dimensions of the 1350: 13.9 x 6.88 x 7.48 (95 aH & 64.4 lbs)

It could be worth talking to an Odyssey expert on how these are different because the CCA are way higher on the 2150 at 1150 and the reserve is 10 minutes longer. But I do agree that the 1350 looks like the easy solution. That 1" extra length though...I may not have an inch in how my air compressor is set up and it's all very snug already.

My 2150 studs are cut off at the optimal height apparently. I'll try to post the photos later. I do know that back in 2007 I had no idea there were options for stud type.

Test fitting a camping idea that can be left behind during the day for less daily pack up/set up time. Area would be for cooking or bike maintenance in wind or rain.

I have the Hannibal rear awning but the area is very small and obviously it has to be reset twice a day if driving off.

Thought you might dig this for ideas on your trips. The Kelty was pretty affordable during a coupon sale at REI or in the outlet online.

Thanks for the pictures and the confirmation the stud was cut on the neg. Does the same hold true on the positive?

These attachments don't appear to be working.

Well, that worked. I'll try the tent photo again...

But the heavy duty Hannibal awning/room is far better for some situations like higher winds, heavy rain, snow, and it's modular in set up meaning you can just roll out the top awning, add one side, or all three sides as desired. It's also much quicker to deploy.

LR3 in full drop mode for camping or garages.

i like the tent idea but with the foxwing it wouldn't work so well. Headed to pick up a 16ft jon boat for some "overwater" marsh trips I have coming up. Will post pics this weekend.

If I'd known about the foxwing back then I probably would have gone that route if there are full surround walls for it and a way to manage water.

Hey guys, No real truck updates but i did get hitched. Now that the 95 degree temps have hit and 100precent humidity is here the welding projects will be slowing down. Plus i need to put in some serious OT at work to make that $$.
After getting the rear gas can swing out and sliders done the build will be close to finished.
Im looking at mounting a basic shower system on the roof rack, maybe some molle seat covers and atleast one locker. The main problem i was having with the progress on the locker was that no one installed them. Next month a 4wheel parts store is opening in Baton Rouge and i was assured their techs can do the install. I also researched swaping to coils if the air suspension started giving me problems. Doubt that will happen, but wanted to be familiar with the process while knowing my options.
Oh, bought a little jon boat 16x48 for some marsh expeditions, the biologist wife did a study on the life span of nutria in “da bayou”. Curious to see if it has changed.

Congratulations on hitching ;)

Can you get that boat on the roof or is it a towing deal? I've thought it would be cool to use a boat small and light enough for the roof that would still allow two people for small lake fishing.
