Rugged Carputer?

Metcalf

Expedition Leader
Does anyone make a all-in-one double din Carputer with a touchscreen, volume knob, front dvd/cd slot, etc.......that is rugged enough to stand up to the wet dirty hot or cold very dusty environment of an expedition vehicle?

I'm looking for an solution for GPS, mapping, music, some video, data storage, etc...all in one location cleanly mounted in the dash.

Thanks for the help

if you decide to go separate computer and display, check these out:
http://www.cartft.com/catalog/gl/112

i decided to go with touchpanel display from them up front and my own laptop and docking station in the rear... still just getting started, i have the sreen mounted and next weekend should be installing the dock and running the cables. here's my worklog: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/wor...ition-vehicle-worklog-dockable-hp-laptop.html

now if you are definite about wanting an all-in-one unit, panasonic toughbooks aren't small but are sturdy. there's also xtablet, there was one on ebay the other day: http://www.ruggedtabletpc.com/

i had also strongly considered an all-in-one solution, the asus t91 notebook/tablet. i was thinking to flip it into tablet mode and mount it like i did my screen ultimately, but i didn't like the idea of all the cables coming out of it (power, gps, external wifi antenna, usb hub, etc.)

you could look at the archos 5 internet tablet with a car mount.
http://www.archos.com/products/imt/index.html?country=us&lang=en
it doesnt have a cd, but you can just store your music digitally.
it also has a built in gps, internet with wifi, bluetooth, and fm transmitter.

another great thing about it, is that its small, so you can disconnect it and store it in your builtin console safe.

i use one in my delica with the fm transmitter and the old stock radio. the transmitter works great, although the car mount needs to be 'reworked' for off roading.
