The jeep is looking and working great. Nice scenery, that lookout is pretty incredible.

Also, your old front locker is working great in my rear axle. :ylsmoke:

Hey Jack! I guess I missed it if you mentioned locrwln was you, thats good news the locker is working out for you. I appreciate you sending the ring gear back to me that was unexpected, hows your rig coming along, any pics?

Rig looks sweet, love Dusy its one of my favorite trails. Have not ran the Rubicon in my LJ yet, plan to this summer. Guessing you saw few vehicles and the ground was probably perfect with the dusting of snow we got.

Thank you, I'm loving it. Dusy was incredible, it was one of my "bucket list" trails and I am thrilled to have done it. This was my second run on the Rubicon with mine. Last year with 2" lift and 33's (well fake 33's BFG A/T's), it took some doing. This year was much more pleasant on 35's, plus my wife drove the first half.

We didn't see another vehicle until we ran into people camped at Buck Island, so before BI, no one and after BI, we didn't see anyone on the rest of the trail. It was an incredible experience.

Super cool build, I especially love your rear rack assembly. Excellent video work as well!

Thank you I appreciate that, here are some recent pics of the new paint job.

Got a lot of of work done last two weekends, I bought some Monstaliner and was ready to install it in the cab when I stumbled onto Lizardskin sound control, after a little research I decided to try it out so sprayed that on the interior of the hardtop and the inside of the cab. Ended up with about 50 mils thickness, took if for a short drive and was impressed with the lack of road noise.

Also had a friend of mine install the SWAG body mounts as I sold my Mig and am still on the fence about what to replace it with. He also made some slights mods to get them to play nice with the PSC sliders and Savvy under armor.

Gave the sound control one week to dry and rolled the inside of the cab in Monstaliner Light Quartz Grey and the half top and bed in Medium Quartz Grey. Maybe 5 minutes after I rolled the first coat on the cab and bed it started raining, could not believe it we have had no rain this winter and out of nowhere it rains for 30 minutes and then the sun comes out again , had me scrambling to make some kind of roof I could park the rig under. My garage is tiny but managed to pull stuff out of it and got the hard top in before it saw much rain, the bed however was soaked, tried to gently wipe up the beads but the paint was too tacky. Ended up letting it sun dry for 5 hours and applied the second coat and all was good. My cage is back from the powder coaters and going to get that back in this weekend.

Couple of updates, picked the cage up last weekend. Got it all mounted up and found some seals for where the cage passes through the cab, Robin at Lavender brothers had the idea of using a steering shaft seal from a 61 Karmann Ghia. We test fit it and it was a tight fit but that was fine with me, I found some online and got them yesterday. Pretty stoked how the whole thing turned out, I like the grey tub and top, the cage stands out more and was kind of lost before when everything was black.

Found these rain gutters online that have 3M adhesive and are moldable, my main complaint with the GR8TOPS was no rain gutters, every time it rained I would have water in the cab. Well not anymore with these and some fiberglass work around the doors its almost as good as the original hardtop.

Installing the Mastercraft seats this weekend and a new stereo, hoping to get out and do some exploring at least one day.

I also have a Gr8top on my LJ and I have honestly been disappointed in the quality. Many of my complaints are the same as some things you've mentioned; road noise, water in floor, ect.

In your opinion was the lizard skin worth the effort? It looks like you did the top and floorboards? Was 1 gallon enough or did you need two?

Awesome build man! I hope you don't mind if I copy your rack system? I cant get over how well its complements the LJ/Gr8top.

GR8TOP and Monterey PD

Hi guys, sorry for the late response been a while since I was on here. I agree that the GR8TOP is not so great, still leaks with the rain gutters and mods I did. One gallon is more than enough to do the cab and inside of the top, it made a difference but its still noisy on the road but hey its a jeep. I would do it over again if I was painting the inside of the cab like I did otherwise not sure I would just spray down the lizardskin as its not as durable as the Monstaliner or any other bed liner and needs to have something applied over it or your feet will scuff it up and flatten it down over time.

I know some guys in Monterey PD and Seaside PD, good group of guys and I do enjoy living in Monterey!

Here is a short video from Memorial Day weekend, Enjoy!
