Well the evil voice in my head got the better of me, I went and checked out the utility bed.
All I say is crap, crap crap, and did I mention crap. Not the bed, my build, going to have a hard time not getting it, crap!
Took all sorts of measurements and looks like I can definitely make it work, crap.
He even has a nice aluminum cabover rack that goes with it.
It will have to be mounted backwards to get the wheel arch in the right spot but I was going to have to rework the ends for the doors anyway.
Gonna do some sketches tonight.
Sometimes I can be my own worst enemy.
Someone talk me out of this!

I whipped up a quick rendition of what it would look like using MSpaint.
Be nice, using paint is like asking an artist to draw with crayons!
Actually there will be a bunch of sleeping options.
The plan is to run baseboard upside down around the perimeter down about 1/2" inch to make a ledge for 2 inserts ( approximately 3' x 3' ). The inserts will be flush on the top.
They will be supported on 3 sides, removable. One or both may get hinges. I kinda design as I go!
So with both inserts out, I can sleep just in the overhang but cant stretch out. It's 5' 8"ish and I am 6' 2". Still have full access to pick up bed.
One insert in, I can lay stretched out with plenty of room in all directions. This is what I plan on doing when its just me. Still have access to P/U bed.
Both inserts in, room for 2 maybe 3 people up top. Would have to enter and leave via the exterior ladder or shuffle around to remove one insert, which I think would get old fast! Limited access to P/U bed.
"Do you think the rattle might be a protest from your GM truck getting parts from another manufacturer?"
No, the Nissan part is skerred of the V8 mounted below it!
