If anyone has a lead on a stripped down XV1 or XV2 on the west coast shoot me a dm. Looking for something to tow behind my E350 that’s a little bit narrower than the M1102 I currently have. Thanks!

Does anyone have a Schutt XV-2 with terrible trailer sway? I can't go above 55 MPH until it starts wobbling back and forth significantly. Does anyone have any advice on how to stop this? Thank you so much

That is typically caused by too much weight being behind the axle. Reorganize your gear with the heavy stuff forward of the tires.

Load more weight in front of the axle, as far forward as you can. Ensure trailer is level. Ensure tire pressure is equal side to side and not over/under inflated for the weight.

Not sure what is going on but something doesn't seem right. Has it ever been in an accident ?

I was doing 70 mph in our 2019 ZR2 Colorado diesel and someone passed us like we were parked on the side of the road, doing about 90 & was towing an X-Venture X2. It was not swaying at all.

Is trailer sitting level with the ground when towing ? It should be.

Is it possible that the wind is getting under the rt tent and unweighting the tongue weight/hitch ?

Is it possible that the tow vehicle is squatting too much ?

Everything should be level with the ground when towing. 2 different heights is fine, as long as both are level with the ground.

Is tongue weight 15% of trailer weight ? It should be. I have towed the military trailers at 55 & no issues. Tracked straight. Something is amiss. Let us know if you figure it out please.

I am curious about the cause of your issues.

Anybody done any mods to their trailer? I've been thinking about a camper topper (ex. GFC, SuperPacific, Tune) OR a slide-in camper (ex. 4-Wheel Campers) modification to our XV-2. I see that SkinnyGuy Campers has a topper specifically made for the XVenture but not quite what I'm looking for.

A slide-in would be amazing (ex. 4-Wheel Camper). I imagine it would use turnbuckle hardware to attach to the rotating tie-down rings in the XV-2 bed. Not sure how to incorporate or work-around the current water heater mounted in the bed and water fill port in front of the passenger side wheel-well.

Not sure how a camper topper (ex. GFC, SuperPacific) would mount since the side bedrails are slightly different than a regular trucks bedrails. I don't think there's enough of a lip to secure with clamps. Lifting and securing the tailgate from the inside would be hard too.

My wife and I really like the idea of a "live-in" type system. Galley and everything else can remain the same. Anyone had similar thoughts? I am open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Here's a twist of a question :

What about putting a Canopy Style Camper for a truck on an XV-2 ? Like a Dirtbox Canopy Camper or a Tune M1 ?
That way it would be enclosed yet accessible from 3 sides and a huge bed up top.

Has anyone ever thought about or actually done it ?

It’s been done with the military version. M1102/1101
I’ve seen a couple of variations on that posted here over the years.

I've been brainstorming this for over a year now and even talked to Tim at Schutt about it. The problem is the dimensions and installation. You can't simply order a GoFast Camperand clamp it on.
  • 2 companies make a topper specifically for XV-2. Dirtbox Overland and Skinnyguy. Skinnyguy is $$$ and attaches via turnbuckles to the inside of the bed. The Dirtbox is actually pretty cool and secures via the slots currently used for the adjustable height rack.
  • A slide-in camper (4-Wheel, Scout, etc). XV2 has enough payload but you can't access the water fill port or water heater in the bed with the camper installed. Again $$$.
  • Tusca Outdoors makes a hardshell "Hiker" that is very lightweight and would fit inside the bed however they are small and not standing height. Good for fishing or hunting but not family camping. If it's just you (or you and spouse) then you could really build out something cool.
  • Another thought is to build out your own topper/camper like the toppers people use on the military M1102 trailer. Possibilities are endless. I have many ideas and notes for this and found someone in Casper WY who fabricates trailers and custom orders.
My wife and I are getting older and kid is now a teenager. We need some space and don't want to climb a ladder every night to go to bed/restroom. Happy to share other ideas and pros/cons I have thought about this whole topic. Best of Luck.
