Some observations about the show:
The crowd is reduced in numbers and energy this year. The
atmosphere is more subdued. Except at the Kia display in the
north building, where they were serving free breakfast Tuesday!
The Jeep JK Unlimited with huge lift and tires is now officially passé
as a way to draw attention. I must have seen 25 jeeps outfitted
like this. The new fashion accessory for a Jeep is a rooftop tent.
Hummer's area in the GM display has two of the most practical
custom off-road vehicles at the show. The first is an H3 with 4 inch
suspension lift, upgraded shocks, and 35 inch tires. Combined with
V8 power and front and rear lockers, this is a serious off-road machine.
The second Hummer is an H3T. Its V8 engine was given the traditional
hot rod treatment, with new cam, new heads and a free flow exhaust.
A less aggressive suspension lift and shock upgrade still makes room
for 35 inch tires, and probably would be a better compromise for a
daily driver than the taller lift on the first Hummer.
