"Service 4wd" message came on briefly - something to worry about?

I had a similar issue on my 2001 Tahoe. It ended up being two things, the front actuator was not fully extending and what the dealer called the speed sensor was faulty. After 40mph with the speed sensor not reading correctly the system would lock up and would not let me change out of 4 high unless the vehicle was turned off and back on.

Gary: Mine is actually the NP8. Not sure what the NR4 is - that one may be for the Stabilitrak AWD transfer case. They do have the NP8 motor, though, $211 for a reman.
Martin, I saw the NP8 but the description didn't seem to match up with what you had described. I know zero about a Suburban. Fortunately, you know which transfer case you have. Good Luck in getting your problem resolved.
