Shock Suggestions?

I've been running the HD OME set-up (coils, shocks, and struts) on my Montero without a hitch since 2009.
The rear is a bit stiff when the rig is unladen, because the coils are constant load (about 200 lbs engages the coil).
However, when fully laden for a backcountry expedition they ride fantastic. The front end rides great all the time with a bull bar and winch.
If you plan on loading your rig down, I would recommend the HD set-up.

I installed KYB gas-a-just on my 97 over the summer. I was shocked at how smooth the ride was. I took the same 500 mile round trip twice both before and after the shocks were installed. It was a night and day difference.

I have been running the HD OME set-up on my '03 Montero Limited without fail for exactly one year now. They still respond as they did a year ago.
