This is a great build! I love those TIGER campers. How do you like the Chevy off road?

The GMC has not let us down yet.
Here are a few pics from our last 4 wheeling we did in Colorado, utah, and into Nevada.

Here is a link to our day on Ophir pass:

kevin,

you mentioned increasing your fresh water tank.

what is capacity now ? i have not spent that much time in an RV so how many days of showers does the standard tank give you.

Thanks !

The stock fresh water tank is 33gallons. While it is adequate, we would like more. It's not so much the shower situation, as it is the drinking water. We can carry a lot more food than our water lasts. We try to camp near water sources as much as possible to bathe and have wash water. We usually make it a week on a tank, depends on showers.

newbie question -

when traveling around the country where do you fill your fresh water tank from ?

i imagine with rv camprounds that is no problem but if you don't stay in one what do you do? filter it from streams, lakes, etc... do you have a pump to fill the tanks with when not hooked to a pressurized fresh water source like at an rv campground ? if not staying overnight will they let you fill your tanks for a fee.

my interest in an RV, The tiger, and specifically the shortbus version is my plans to be able to chase the storms in the winter and go from ski area to ski area for fresh powder skiing. i have never spend much time in an rv so i have been wondering about this scenario.

again. newbie question. thanks in advance !

I'm not sure how they're doing it, but my wife and I have spent the last 4 years traveling North America fulltime towning a small Travel Trailer that is equiped to stay off grid and out in the boonies.

We've found that many gas stations and truck stops will have hoses for RV fill-up. We carry a two stage filter system that pre-filters the water before it goes into our tanks.

We then carry one of the Britta pitchers to filter the drinking water if we're going to be drinking this water out of our tanks.

While traveling in Baja Mexico, we found that almost every small town had water filtration stations which had long hoses they could drag out the front door to fill our tanks.

We carry a small pump that can suck out from a river system or lake incase that need arises, but in 4 years of fulltime travel, we've never needed to use it.

You'd be surprised at how long 40 gallons of fresh water can last when you know you need to make it last. 1 Gallon showers are the norm.

I have filled RV water tanks at gas stations/truck stops. On major uphill grades I often travel dry, and fill up at or near our destination. Unless you're trying to fill in the middle of the desert where water has to be trucked in, everyone (a dozen or so) has cheerfully given permission to use their spigot along with purchase of a tank of gas.

lost, but making time
Hi Pat,
Would like very much to hear more about this filtration set-up.
If it hasn't already been done and for me to not hi-jack this one, would you mind to start a thread about it, please ? If it has already been described, could you point me in the right direction ?

Thanks ! ! ! :D

Any updates? How is it holding up to the frame flex? Any other +'s. -'s?

We have ended our cross country adventure. Sad to say, it is also the end of our marriage. We are staying friends, and the future is unknown.

I am keeping the Tiger, and will be using it a bunch this winter. Its been holding up great. Finally had the fender flares and rocker panels bed lined for protection. I am currently having a custom set of King by-pass shocks built for the Tiger. The Bilstein shocks did a great on the road, but off-road they heated up too quickly and the ride suffered. Should see them on the rig soon. Re-wiring the inverter, as we blew up two so far. Looking forward to hauling snomobile trailers and heading into the back-country this winter. The body and frame are rock solid. Need to throw on a heavy wax before the winter hits.

Looks good....Sorry to hear about the marriage. Hope it's the best for both of you.

I'd like to see a photoshop of that black line on the bottom of your truck extended all the way back along the camper. It might also look neat if it was a design, like maybe a tire track..........
