Hi All,

So plans are now afoot to do a bit of Travel to various parts of Ireland with my GF and Penny(both Pictured Below) since the weather is crap here all year round I plan on sleeping in Penny as the rear seats have been completely removed and made into a van before I bought it :wings: It will only be for weekends away beech camping now and stuff like that but not extended stays and would like to see what you guys have done, have a 12v power supply in the back and winter pack with twin batterys from factory so thats not a bad start plus Penny herself is in pretty good shape mechanically.

This is what I have to work with

And these ladies will be my travel buddies for the short trips away :)

All info and tips appriciated

This is mine,You would comfortably sleep a few midgets on it,and the top opens so you can put your midgets in it when you're done with them :)

and without the artificial grass effect carpet

I'm thinking of making a bit that folds forward to where the drivers seat goes when it's fully forward and two legs propped under it,I can kip on it at the swapmeet then :)

Nice to see I'm not the only one who has removed the 2nd and 3rd row seats! :)

I'm 6'1" and 220 lbs, and both myself and my 110-lb dog can fit comfortably in the back. One solution for cargo + sleeping I use is to utilize a large (as large as possible) locking box for certain cargo. Depending on the situation and location, it doesn't necessarily need to lock. Anyway, when it comes to to bed time, I remove the box (es) and lock them to the bumper with a steel cable and padlock. When it comes time to leave in the morning, I unlock them and throw them in the back again. It works well. If you needed to keep things off the ground, you could use smaller boxes and put them up on the roof.

Mine is 1/2" thick plywood that's cut to fit within the rig. The platform is covered in indoor/outdoor carpeting.

It's supported by...
- four 12-13" long 3" wide PVC pipes (not sure the schedule but it has 1/4" thick sides) which are positioned right next to the tie down loops in the floor.
- two pieces of 18" long 2x4 lumber on each sides. The 2x4 is bolted to a piece of L channel extruded aluminum. The L channel in turn is bolted to the original 3rd row seat mounts.

It's also held down at each PVC tube with 5/16" carriage bolts, turnbuckles, & hooks which are attached the tie-down loops in the floor.

Here are a few pics...

Here's an animated gif showing how it folds forward.

One minor thing different in the above image. The section that's wood in these pics are now covered in black carpet. It makes it tougher for someone looking in through my tinted windows to figure out the rear floor is raised so they don't end up getting too curious about what might be underneath.

As found out saturday , the passenger seat is only 4 bolts and it pops out completely in about 3 minutes that would give you plenty of room to sleep away mad and 5 minutes then to put back in once your out of bed in the morning :ylsmoke:

IM 6'2" and bout 250 lbs and my
girlfriend doesnt weigh much more than your dog so thats good to know ye fit comfortably :wings: , it will be somthing along the lines of your idea get a big box for storage and lock it to a towing point on the wagon or since they will be short trips sit it across the front seats possibly :) as for the second an third seats , car tax in Ireland for big 4wds is huge so most people take out the seats and tax it as a van wich is literally one third of the price ie tax for my pajero as is €333 a year for tax , for a pajero with 7 seats is over €1400 a year for tax so taking out the rear seats is a nice option

These ideas are awesome but my plan and inspiration are gearing toward RTT or pop-up tent.

What does RTT stand for? Im a complete noob here sorry. Its VERY windy here in Wellington NZ so I dont think a roof tent will work for me at all...plus i like the idea of just rocking up to towns or cities in the Pajero and being able to just jump in the back for a sleep, no need to find a "camp" site. OH now im thinking RTT it roof top tent? and pop up tent is just a tent on roof racks is that right?

RTT does indeed stand for Roof Top Tent. A pop-up is where parts of the roof pops up. The VW Westfalias spring to mind.

Hey Brett,

Just as Aspire said above.

The only reason I went with RTT and Pop up is because we have a family of four.

So fold down trunk space is out of question.

On top of that, my wife is preferred "Glamping", I will let you find out what it means LOL.

Anyone have new setups they could post? I'm planning on building one similar to off-roader and am just looking for similar builds!
