I went big with the boat seat quick release brackets and made up some quick release tables...makes it easy to deploy my kitchen or add some seats just about anywhere.

I too have always wanted windoors. On my titan they wouldn't have been useful since even at almost 6'2 there's no way I could have grabbed something out of the bed through the windoor, bed rails were too high.

I was first on this site around 2008-2009. There is a pretty stark difference in the vehicles on here in 2025 vs. back then. I really miss all of the DIY fabrication and no "follow me on Instagram" post.

Well I could sell this one and you could start. 2014 limited, custom Catskin interior. Many other options all done by toyota including leveling kit, tires, rims, roof rack. Never off road. Only 94k miles. All service done. Always. 2nd owner. Newer tires and brakes. Needs zero.

It’s definitely fun doing more with less, I enjoy hard challenges but it’s also nice having some capability. I never went bigger than 33s on my built XJs and enjoyed following all my buddies with trailer queens. Now I enjoy taking the Taco out and seeing what it can do, I definitely need some sliders though.

Its true lol. Everyone has their own opinions, that’s generally why I lurk and don’t engage anymore. Sometimes I catch myself starting to type out some long explanation and then I think to my self “why even bother” and then I delete it.
As far as gear goes I do nerd out on certain things, I’m just not the type that needs every top notch thing. I said “minimalist overlanding” kind of jokingly but then again I’m sure it’ll catch on with some people.

This was my first XJ build. 33s, lockers and 4:1 with a 5 speed manual, it was amazing off road. It’s hard to see but I built a rack in the back. I used to keep all the heavy stuff under it and all my bedding on top. I could fit everything I needed in the back with the seat up, it was well organized and nothing flung around the cab when exploring. When I set up camp I’d move everything out from under the rear rack and lay out all my bedding, I could stretch out and keep anything I needed inside on top of the rack during the night. Eventually I got a Tepui, an awning and a Yeti cooler. That was luxury compared to backpacking, so I was content.
I still camp in a somewhat simple fashion and I’d like to build a DIY Bambed set up in the Taco. Now that I have a family I definitely bring more gear but still try to keep things simple.

Looks awesome, thanks for sharing! When loaded out with all that gear how’s the fuel range with the diesel?
On a side note I was looking at 2019 Hilux specs compared to to my 19 Taco…the Payload capacity is so much better!
