Anyone have the Cabela unit? I'm curious if it's usable with out the rain fly. Is the top open without the rain fly?

It seem like one that could be set up simply without the fly would be desirable. With the option of adding the roof when desired.

I love my Cabela's shelter! Strong enough to hang a shower bag, if you're not using a Zodi or similar. Plenty of room for us (he's 6'3" and I'm 5'10). I love the mesh top when warm out, and the fly is great when cold. Being able to hang towels and clothes outside is great. Having a floor is a huge plus for me, too.

I also have an Outback, but that's stricktly for the porta potty. I use the velcro floor as an entry for the shower.

The only one I have and have used is the outback porta-privy. The ease of setup is only exceeded by the frustration of folding it back up if you have forgotten how between uses. Before starting on a trip I try to take the time to carefully and slowly open it (so I can pay attention to how it folds) and close it a few times to refresh my memory. Otherwise I have to let my wife deal with it, she seems to have no trouble at all with folding it up. It has held up very well over the years but if I broke it I think I would get another. It is big enough, light enough, sturdy enough, easy enough to pack. If I recall correctly it only cost $30-$40.

I've had the Pahaque for over ten years now and I like it a lot. The dumb thing about the design is that the pole joiners are not flush and catch when slid through the fabric loops making setup a two person operation. I use some smallish carabeeners instead of sliding the poles through.

Hey, you say "head" and I think head, as in privy/john/commode/latrine... I've spent way too much time afloat :snorkel:

Just for the record, I did mean the john/commode/latrine. :victory: I was thinking of going with the bucket bags also, just didn't know if you had a better option. Of course having one built into the truck makes is almost too easy.
