2nd part of our interview is up on the home page. Look out for more from us in the future ;)

On another note, I leave for the Simpson Desert here in Australia on Monday. 3000km in 12 days driving someone else's Defender 90. Keep up to date on facebook for desert sunsets, stary night skies, big red sand dunes and more importantly to see if I make my flight from Alice Springs on the 26th!

The long awaited motion picture of our trip.

Granted, it is short, it isn't great quality in placed and yes the theme tune I chose is dark. But we didn't set out to film our trip, just to enjoy it and get some great photos. The video was always an afterthought so this is what we put together from the best bits :)

I hope you enjoy.

I just completed a crossing of the Simpson Desert from Birdsville to Jervois via the QAA Line and Hay River Track (600km in 3 days) in a standard TD5 90. The whole trip was completed in 7 days from Melbourne with me waiting to fly out of Alice Springs, which is where I am now.

I cant seem to post photos up on the tablet for some reason. But there are some on Facebook. With over 500 photos on the DSLR I will get processing and posting soon enough.

Stay tuned.

Some photos from the Tablet of the Simpson desert. Quality isn't great but the DSLR versions are on their way!

We also got some photos to go with an article in Land Rover Monthly about towing trailers:

So the penultimate blog post from 2013 is up: http://siroccoverland.com/2014/07/2...rge-mirny-and-the-vilyuysk-trackt-to-yakutsk/

This and part III were probably the toughest on our trip in terms of terrain, remoteness, isolation, tiredness of both ourselves and the vehicle. However they were probably the most rewarding and some of the most memorable. Enjoy.

Your pictures and stories continue to amaze me.....

Thanks Jerry, very much appreciate your kind words, thank you :ylsmoke:

great pics

Thanks again for your support Piratexpress, you have been very vocal here, most appreciated :D

What antennae is that on the aARB Bumper? Link?

I take it you mean the one on the 70 series cruiser? I now have one on mine but I don't think there are any photos of that up yet, mine is just a standard UHF. The one on the 70 series is a combination Satellite Phone external antenna and GPS.

John however didn't really recommend this approach as when you roll your truck in the outback what will snap 1st? Puck antennas for both GPS and Sat Phone are recommended and are what we use to :)

That's what it looked like on the 70 series. Any build thread for yours? Communications are a huge thing for me in remote areas. I like to be able to reach out and touch someone when needs rise

Not really a build thread, but there is some info on our website.

For comms in remote areas a Sat Phone is all you really need. I rate them higher than EPIRB or PLBs as you don't always have an emergency, maybe you just need a chat with a doctor or something like that. With the Sat Phone you can call your dentist, GP, mechanic, wife, mother, dog...

It just has many more uses and you can still call someone in an emergency! Iridium covers the globe and poles with 60 low earth orbit sats (LEOs) so they are the best for coverage especially in the Russian Far North East.

UHF is also big in Australia but I don't think I would rely on it for emergency but it is good for comms between vehicles out on the tracks.
