Snow Peak Shelters

I am looking for a tarp/shelter to add to my setup. Looking at a number of the Snow Peak shelters. Most seriously the Hexa Large, but was interested to hear feedback on the Land Base 6, Land Station, and any other comparable shelters. The Land Base and Land Station look really cool, but not sure you could fit them in many places, or how practical they would be to use.

I searched before posting and there really wasn't much of anything on these units. Hope someone can shed some light.

Thanks

we have a landlock
awesome HUGE tent for when we stay a few days and want to be able to cook eat sleep whatever out of bugs and weather etc. in comfort

super heavy duty had it in winds about 40-50 was rock solid when some other cheap tents of course folded up
no way would I say its going to beat a killer 4 season mtn tent in wind but its over 20 feet long by 14 feet the fact it was solid for its size is amazing IMHO ;)

very heavy duty nice fabric the inside tent in ours is really nice as far as feel and build

one thing with the UV coating they have on some of there products it makes it much cooler inside unlike normal synthetic tents that become horrid in warm weather

I like some of the other stuff some of the dome tents are nice cause all the windows zip up so no dust entry

any questions feel free to ask away what ever I can try to answer

Honu - Great looking setup. The cooler material is something I have read, and am curious about. That is a huge plus.

I am also looking at the MSR Zing and maybe a McDane tent or having him build a custom shelter. But both of these will not have the UV coating you were referring to, but are much lighter units. After packing my truck over and over, I am starting to think that lighter and less bulky items have merit even when camping with a vehicle.

A problem that I haven't mentioned is availability. Most Snow Peak shelters are not available and the Snow Peak US can't say when they will be.

thanks :)

that McDane looks a lot like the memo they have out now also :)

the one other tent I looked into was the tentipi series and still like them a lot

for us at least our goal was to have a large area to hang out cook store our stuff when out for a few days its not a overnight setup for sure
also wanted to be able to close it up and eat inside with no bugs :) so screening etc. was important and not have it to big to sleep in

one thing I do like when pitched is the fact that its stable in the wind and does not move around or flap at all cause I hate that about synthetic tents :) only other tent I had that was rock solid was a Moss years ago the waterproof ratings on many of the nicer SP products is very high also have only had ours in rain once I think ? does not rain tons here but when it does it comes down hard usually but we have lots of sun

for sure its a bit large but not to bad and I still use tarps a lot and want a SP tarp someday soon but we almost use this like a giant tarp with bug screen kinda ?

we are now switching to hammocks so chances are the inner tent won't be used much anymore but its there if we need it we also have a cheap kelty 6 person tent that goes up super fast and easy for smaller spots we can't fit that thing when we go to regular camp grounds

on the packing unpacking I hear ya big time started a post about that even and have over time dumped many things and changed them out for light ? some stuff I keep though but have dumped regular chairs for the helinox got all down bags changed our pads to air style over self inflating now we are in the hammocks :) and loving it so will get some nice down under quilts instead of synthetic
changed out quite a few other things and while some stuff like the SP tables etc... are heavy in a sense they pack small and thin and really kinda play big and work really well have slowly been carrying less and less in weight
this last trip up the mtns was are lightest yet and have to say a touch better mileage truck handled better etc...
every time I think of getting a trailer again ? I think OK do I really want a trailer again or use some of that money to get even lighter better gear
and have some options for where we go and how long we stay kinda thing

for me the SP is not to bad in weight for what you get ?
size of a tarp under it
a sleeping area
a bug free eating area if we need it a
large enough area if the weather sucks we can get out and still move around cook and eat etc...
that last pic we had rain coming in so moved the eating area inside and was quite nice

on the UV thing the land lock still gets hot inside not as bad as our other tents BUT once you open them up they vent off and are much cooler and does feel like you are in the shade where normal tents even opened up stay hot under the fly big time and never cool down cooler feeling ? I think that makes sense not sure also if its the fabrics are thick enough or what ? example our kelty tarp is cheap gets us out of the sun but its a touch warmer feeling under it than out in the open shade will keep most water off us I am sure but have heard they can drip but at $75 I am OK with it for now since I do have such a dual purpose tent so its almost like a tarp a screen house in one unit

I do think a lot of our choice was just what we wanted

that Nemo McDane style is pretty slick I often wondered if you can fly up the sides or if it would be to flappy ? as that would be a great light option for a large living room thing and something like the memo bug out for bug free eating ? could also be a great combo
